I just bought the G3258 recently and can't decide on what Z series motherboard to pair with it. Planning on overclocking it atleast 4.0 Ghz.

Temporary Current setup:
Mobo: None
Procie: Intel G3258 (Temporary)
PSU: Corsair vs450
GPU: Radeon HD 5570 1GB
RAM: 2Gb Kingston 1333 2x

Planned setup
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Guard Pro
GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC 2GB
RAM: Gskill RipjawsX 4GB 1600 CL9
Proc: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.90GHz (Quad Core)

I'm planning to upgrade my CPU in due time to an Intel Core i5-4690K 3.90GHz (Quad Core)

Also is the PSU Corsair VS450 good enough for it even if it is temporary?

PS: The CPU upgrade on my part will take a lot time.

VS series are the worst Corsair PSUs, but since you only have a 750 ti it should do. Have you already bought all the parts or are you still planning your build?

Pretty much any z97 motherboard is going to be able to OC a g3258. Are you planning on getting an aftermarket cooler?

Can't decide on my cooler yet though. But i'm thinking of Corsair H75 Hydro Series. Of course for the meantime i'll be using my stock cooler.

Don't get a water cooler, they only beat air at the high end ($100+). Get a 212 EVO, which'll get the same or better temps. The z97 guard pro should be enough for overclocking a Pentium but you'll only be able to run a 4690k with a small overclock due to the fact that it only has 4 power phases.

You should also invest in some RAM that's at least 1600MHz

Then i should go with the AsRock Z97 Pro4 for Pentium K and 4690k? Also If I'm gonna OC both Pentium K and 4690k with Z97 Pro4 can it unleash it's potential? (even a bit for 4690k)

I have MSI Z97 PC MATE with G3258,I get max clock is 4.6Ghz(1.3V),but my current clock is 4.3Ghz(1.25V),my cooling is Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.Just go this board( MSI Z97 Guard Pro and MSI Z97 PC MATE have similar feature, maybe just go MSI Z97 Guard Pro would be better ).

How much budget you have?
If you have much budget,I would pick MSI Z97 gaming 5.
I have gaming 5 with i5 4670k,easy to go 4.3Ghz~4.4Ghz.
By the way gaming series have best quality and nice performance.

But .. if you don't have much budget . I think PC MATE or GUARD PRO with I5 4690k 4.2~4.3Ghz stable would be easy~

I'm not very comfortable about the MSI Z97 PC-MATE i'm not sure why, of course i did read some reviews on it. It just i'm having doubts on it's performance with G3258.
As for the MSI Z97 Guard Pro i'm still considering it aside from AsRock Z97 Pro4.
Currently i'm still saving up for the mobo but my max budget is about 110$

if you can cost more $9 budget,I would go Z97S SLI Plus $119,Tier Two board would be better than Z97 Guard Pro,Z97 Pro4 and Z97 pc mate,

(Tier Two: High end. Great MoBos, SLI capable with good enough thermals and power to take up any CPU, not the best for extreme OCing but do OC very well. Have many premium features as well. Quality is good, no known persistent issues.)

And Z97S SLI have 8 power phase , better heatsink,m.2 support, support intel 5gen cpu and support sli and cf.

if you can't cost to much, maybe just go Z97 Guard Pro.

They are at the both same price at my local store.

I'll get the Z97 Guard Pro if i can't really can't cost to much or maybe Z97S SLI. But what if i get the MSI Z97 Gaming 3 can i get both G325 and 4690k to run at 4.6 if I overclock? (If i can cost more than my budge even a little)

MSI Z97 Gaming 3 only have 6 power phase,Z97S SLI have 8 power phase,I would say for overclocking I would go Z97S SLI .But MSI Z97 Gaming 3 have more better looking and audio than Z97S SLI.
If you planning to overclocking, you should go Z97S SLI would be better.

That's the sad part about the Z97 Gaming 3, only having 6 power phase. If i'm gonna really go with Z97S SLI would can the both cpu reach even 4.6 especially with a 4690k cpu

It's easy.but you have to get a good air-cooling like coolmaster hyper 212

Ok thank you for all the feedback guys Trossa and PIEapple.

I've decided to get Z97 Guard Pro but will get the Z97S SLI if i can get enough budget

PS: I know it sounds silly to spend more money on the board for just an unlocked intel G3258, as i can't afford yet a better cpu 'cause I'm still studying full time and due to some circumstances.

Get the Z97S SLI if you can, it'll be worth it over the guard pro and will be able to OC the 4690k to at least 4.5 with a good cooler.
