[SOLVED] Terrible signal

We've been using sky for a while now and always thought it was their fault the signal sucked, however once we bought powerline adaptors we realised we should be getting 50mbps and thought that thanks to the powerline adaptors we would have better signal. However this wasnt true in fact it was better to use Wi-Fi and sit near the router than use the adaptors. Is there any way to find the problem and/or fix it?

You didn't identify a "problem".
Are you asking about the powerline adapters? If so what model?
Are you asking about WIFI from the router? If so what model?
What speed ISP package do you PAY for?

Wifi is always going to be secondary to a wired connection straight from the source. Try a nice long wire first.
