This is ridiculous! I am glad that Tuan has been able to get this resolved!
Though, I hope there will not be any legal or professional repercussions for Tuan. I must ask though, besides the false claims without sufficient data to back them, is the use of the apple logo, Ipod, Imac, Macbook/Pro entirely legal. He uses disclaimers, but I do not believe he has left himself enough room, nor has covered all of the bases/products used. He even uses an older Macintosh advertisement? I would believe Apple Inc. would like to hear about this... Their legal team usually likes to weigh in on anything related to something like this.
Good work Tuan!
Just think of what would have happened if you were a regular consumer?

Additionally I must say, I was originally shocked at seeing this on one of my many daily technology roundup sites. After reading more and considering the facts, I did not believe it to be too out of line. Tom's Hardware is somewhere to go for the facts and opinions. Writers state the facts and their opinions and leave room for the reader decide. All the facts can be checked, and unappreciated opinions skipped. We all as readers control what writers we read, and what articles we skip. Not all of us have the luxury or ability to fix consumer electronics issues like this with the resources Tuan has available. Time and time again the local news station does secret shopping and stumbles on stories like this. This time it has happened to the reporter directly and the story found him. Now, the story could have been presented better, and obviously has improved by now in its presentation. I would hope that maybe this could lead to something new in the CE industry and maybe Tom's Hardware could do more public interest stories like this and investigate more claims and companies for us, the consumer. As an avid reader of Tom's Hardware, I created my account after many years just for these articles.

Oh man this just makes me wanna put my joke to practice!

"I'll burn the company down in to the ground, then rebuild it the way it should have been built"

I just want to note that although the BBB is a source for company information, they are in fact a for-profit business and as I small business owner frankly their scale of rating is flawed...

on another note... these articles are hysterical and I don't believe that Macpadd understands the social media base that is Tom's. If any Tom's user ever hears the name MacPadd there will be an eventful, if not entertaining, story following. That being said, unless you're a Hilton, but publicity is always bad.

[citation][nom]anamaniac[/nom]While entertaining, it seems very unprofessional to use a hardware news site to aggressively attack a vendor. Should have reported him and then leave it be.[/citation]

So this asshat has the opportunity to move on and f*ck with MY money next?? I applaud, tip my hat, give two thumbs up and curtsy everything done up to this point.

Did anyone notice that the MacPadd employ's the use of a grip-it/non-slip drawer/shelf liner on the bottom. The photos on the website show a bottom-view.. Wow, how long would that last...? :)

apparently you werent supposed to post those screenshots because of the "NOTICE TO READER."

HAHA. What a way to get out of saying anything you want and scamming anyone. So bs.

[citation][nom]nelson_nel[/nom]This is what I hate about the 'twitter' age; Everyone thinks they are important enough to give us play by play updates of their lives. Is anything going on here REALLY that interesting? An uninteresting person got ripped off for an uninteresting part and expressed it in a series of uninteresting ways. It was nice to be told about the bad vendor but do I really care beyond that? Does anyone?[/citation]

Judging by the number of replies, I'd have to guess "yes"...

After checking out the live journal and leaving this comment:

Wow. Simply Wow. If the mouse pad is in the mail, can you provide a tracking number for it. Please prove to the world that you have actually shipped your product.

Having read all 3 articles on Toms, it is VERY CLEAR that all you needed to do was provide a legitimate tracking number and ALL OF THIS could have been avoided.

PS
You should really STOP YELLING AT EVERYONE. The caps lock button....push it.

I checked this morning for a reply to find that comments have been disabled on the post in question. Yet another nail in the coffin for Free. To be fair, there were quite a few posts that where very juvenile, but the fact remains that Free is in the wrong and we should all spread the word about him and his sham of a company.

Not that I like Macs in the least, but I will tell all I know that are Mac users to stay away from macpadd.com and any other business run by Mr. Free.

Well like others here I agree that this type of business mal-practice should be reported and prevented. However, I have to question the value of maintaining these articles? I mean honestly, this reads like a giant flame-war, except inter-website as opposed intra-website. I appreciate you giving folks a heads up on this guy so more people don't loose their money, but the detail and effort that seems to have been put in it makes it seem as if you are exploiting your position as a published media persona to settle a score that has become, dare I say it, personal? The first article I understood, even the second provided some valuable information, but this last one is not news at all, and is just a re-hash of the first two. I guess all I'm saying is, we believe you that MacPadd is to be avoided - you don't need to respond to everything that Free does from here on by making it public via Toms Hardware - its gone past the point of being interesting and informative and now seems simply childish.

Of course I could be off completely... just calling it how it seems to me.

Looks like when everything's done he's going to need another way to buy those drinks he gets his wife. Or maybe he's permanently tanked so he can't remember anything.

[citation][nom]christop[/nom]He seems like a mental case to me.. Well I got your back Hackers unite!! www.macpadd.Dos this biotch!!!! 4-ever[/citation]

Sorry. You Just Fail. But He Is A Mental Case.

Just some random thoughts

Free now has turned off comments to his blog site - effectively doing what he is accusing Tom's of doing (ie. giving only one side to the story).

His whole demeanor is really weird. He seems really immature - I've met people like him before and I would never EVER do business with this type of person.

Lastly, I know most people are just talking but let's be clear...his dishonest and questionable behavior should not be cause for anyone to perpetrate any illegal acts on his site (defacing, DOS, etc). He's doing a fantastic job of screwing himself over..so he doesn't need any of our help.

I think by default, CanadaPost give a tracking number.
If you have one you give it. If you doesn't have one, you don't lied about it.

Just this part show he's not honest.
Personnaly I never receive a bad tracking number but if someone give me a bad one, be sure I had do the same thing as Mr. Nguyen. An if a seller lied to me, he should stop the business!
If a seller lied to you, be sure you'll bring back the WW3 if it's need for having your money back.

Free just made to much mistake... seem to me an "amateur" in business without any real experience. Seem to me a kid trying to sell product to the world. What's Fred age ?

I would say that this has been very entertaining for me and I wish more people would be called out like this Free guy. It just so happened that in this case he messed with someone who had a platform that could expose him - and I'm all for exposing frauds and shutting them down.

Hey Tuan, we now need to focus on bigger fish (like the banking industry) :)

[citation][nom]mrtoebiter[/nom]Oh my god, both of you are 12 yr old girls.[/citation]
[citation][nom]mrtoebiter[/nom]You are both acting like babies. Who gives a **** anyway? Jesus.[/citation]
You only feel that way 'cause it ain't hapenning to you.

[citation][nom]zads[/nom]While the first article was informative, the second was kind of amusing, this 'article' is just silly. Does writing a whole article (which I skimmed very briefly), "proving" your side of the feud here really constitute "news"?Not saying you can't do it, but I think the extended discussion belongs in the forum or something.[/citation]

Why yes, it actually does constitute as news. A good reporter always cites their sources, and in a case like this where there is a large supportive following, I say it's even more crucial, and most defiantly counts as news, to provide your proof to the public, least we be mislead, and this is really all backwards.

As for my saying on this issue, Tuan, you were good to report Free, and let us know about him, for, as said in previous post, least he targets others as well.

Mr Tuan, i salute you for your cool and patient handling of this situation, giving Free all the opportunity to redeem himself. Going to the proper authorities to handle the rest is the best move. Thank you for the expose. We need more brave guardian of the internet like you. I truly wish Free won't be free for a long, long time.

I am a little torn on this issue. I agree that there needs to be a warning when someone comes across a bad company, but I did not think that it was Tom's Hardware's news page to do that. I can understand the first article, but the last two seem childish. This reminds me of a flame fest on some MMO game forums or something. Please take it to the forums or some other outlet and get it off of Tom's news page. At this point you both seem childish...

This guy seriously makes me embarassed to live so close to him. And after hearing about this product, I wouldn't mind an aluminum mouse pad. I just won't be buying it off this guy. Just a disgrace!
