I've been using Coretemp for 4 years and HW monitor for nearly that amount of time, none of them ever gave me an issue as you've stated above. Perhaps the source of your download was corrupt? In fact I downloaded Coretemp 2 weeks ago for my clients system while I was overclocking his onboard GPU.

I've used Norton between 2001 and 2005 and they yet haven't come out of their resource heavy coding. I usually stick with an anti-virus that takes the least amount of resources.

Bitdefender, AVG and then there's Vipre

Maybe it was just my download. its ok I prefer HW monitor anyways. So, I will NOT OC now I like I said but is it this easy

Raise CPU ratio and like say start at 40 which is 4ghz...is 40 good to start?
Keep voltage stock as much as possible. What is the MAX safe voltage?
To check if an OC is stable, Run prime 95 or OCCT for how long and thats it? Or any other program needed?
What is a max safe TEMP for gaming, idle and just normal web browsing.

I just like to know the steps of things i will do in the future.

I thought you weren't going to overclock it as stated a few posts back. If you don't mind me asking what objective are you trying to achieve with an overclock, is it slow for the work that you're using it for?

I just I said I will not OC. Not even in a few weeks. I just like to know HOW TO OC before I do it in a few months. There is one game I would like to have better performance in. I dont know. Again, I said I will not OC for now, I will in a few months, but i never said I will never OC.

I have it too and no issues. Perhaps it was some of the Open Candy advertisment downloads he forgot to uncheck?

BTW - Norton is one of the leanest AV's nowadays. It's not resource heavy like it used to be and has some of the highest detection rates and lowest false positives. Although I am particular to Kaspersky (Pure) and Bitdefender (Total).

but i never said I will never OC.
I didn't specify that in any of my posts either. What I was stating was that your machine although a few days old is very capable of running any games at max at the stated res on your monitor.

If you'd like to know about overclocking its best you understand it first.

We usually have threads pertaining to all the questions you've asked thus far, a simple search would yield much more answers then having to wait around.
like this one found via search tool here on Tom's.

Again, not every chip is the same for you or anyone on this world similar to your finger print being unique to you as an individual. Every chip has its limits and these limits tend to show up when you have to push more voltages through them to achieve an overclock. More voltages mean a shorter lifespan for your components and judging from your recent experience's and situations, your machine is not as expendable as most of us have.

So I thought I'd clear this up for you before things go boom. Overclocking takes some patience and some know how, it isn't rocket science mind you.

* what is this game you speak of adventurer ? 😀

RussK - I agree with you there but the engine on the Norton is very noticeable even if it works in the background. I've used both the anti-viruses on my client builds and I kind of like the GUI on Kaspersky but I'm partial to Bitdefender. I've gotta see if I can purchase Vipre and give it a go some time soon.

This. A couple of years ago, Norton was found (PC Mag?) to have dramatically improved its resource usage. I have it on my systems now, primarily because it is free with Comcast, although I will likely be dropping that service soon. At that time, I'll likely go to AVG, which I've also used before. With either, I also run MalwareBytes.
The biggest glitch with Comcast is that in order to get Norton, you must first load a piece of manureware called "ConstantGuard." Fortunately, it may be removed after you install Norton.

Ok modded the haf x case and did some heavy cable management. With the stupid hard drive bay removed (via drilling out the rivets) which opened up the airflow path for the front 230mm intake fan and the cable management the case has much better airflow now and looks a ton cleaner. I will post pics when I get home from work. Its only 9:25a.m. and I am not off till 6:00 p.m. so it'll he a few hours lol.

Almost all virus scanners sometimes have something called a false positive. It is slightly possible that the creators of coretemp have been infected, It would not be the first time a company gets infected in such a way.

Now for the freezing, It is most likely a compatibility issue. This happens on some systems. It sucks, but it does happen. I have seen a system once that did similar with coretemp.

Speedfan is also very bad for freezing some system configurations. Hell speedfan will freeze me 1 out of every 5-10(one one system ever, all others I have ever build are fine with it) used to be honest. The creator is generally good for fixing such issues in future updates, I still have hopes of it getting fixed.

Either way HWmonitor should be fine.

azzazel_99, Can't wait to see pictures.

Yea it turned out pretty good I think. First time really attempting cable management and the hard drive bay inside the case blocked the 230mm front intake on the case. I guess there wasnt any other place to put a multi drive setup like that in this case but it pretty much made the I take useless on the front of the case.

I had a laugh reading this though:
8. BUY A BETTER PC
Find somebody who can build you a cheap gaming computer, this will solve your problem instantly, it will run Minecraft very smoothly for a cheap price!
^ clearly you have a really good build, I'd be more worried about getting good frame rates out on the big titles such as Crysis 3, Metro Last Light or BF 3 and/or 4 or probably NFS Rivals and see how they do on highest settings at those res'.

haha. I do get 100fps on max but with a shaders mod its a bit less..whatever xD still very very smooth. I got two monitors connected. My second one is 1680by1050 but it wont give me that option? Know why?

I have used Coretemp 24/7 365 constantly whenever my computer is on for the last 5 years. NEVER had a single issue. I will not uninstall it. My girlfriend also uses it with no problems.

This is how minecraft shaders mods work. Overclocking will not really help you with this issue.
