I keep getting annoyed at people who are complaining that the R9 390 has 8GB vRAM. Oh forbid AMD puts extra vRAM on their card. I keep seeing people say things like "the 8 GB is pointless" and such and such. I'm not arguing that it is all used, as games today still use around 3GB vRAM. But still, it is being used as a source of complaint. Would they be happier if they brought it down to 3.5GB?
I think it is unpredictable that much vRAM will ever be utilized on the card, but I do believe future games will be using more than 4GB and the 390 will have an edge there. The 8GB vRAM did not seem to have any effect on the pricing of the 390. I guarantee the 390 would have been the same price if it had 4GB vRAM. But forbid AMD be generous. We all know it's a rebrand, and I think it is good that AMD does make nice tweaks to each rabrand. The additional vRAM, lower power and heat, and greater memory clock is what makes the 300 series (well, at least the 390) stand out as a solid rebrand IMO.
