You're welcome! Yeah its short enough to watch but long enough to catch all the good parts(and bad) that's why I go through them.

If it was on the tele I'd be waiting for the season finale to see all of them in one long broadcast.

So frustrated right now...just got a NZXT Source 210, i5 2500k, 212 evo, and an Asus P8Z68-V LE motherboard. I first installed all the parts in the case with my current PSU, HDD, GPU, and ram. Everything worked fine until I went into Windows and it started to randomly crash after I opened a few programs.

So I thought this could be two things, either a software problem, or its my PSU. I'm using the same Enermax 550W PSU which powered the specs in my signature.

Anyway I went ahead and first updated the graphics card driver, lan, chipset, and audio drivers. No luck. I tried the VGA driver too but it said that I didn't meet the minimal requirements or something and it failed to install. I then went on to download the latest BIOS. I used the Asus EZ update in the BIOS to load the latest rom from my HDD (possible problem here?) and then it restarted and gave me a black screen which states:

"WARNING! BIOS Recovery Mode has been detected!
Please put the file "P8Z68VLE.ROM" into a removable USB media device, and reset your computer.
You can also insert ASUS Support CD into your CD-ROM and reset your computer. If you have done these, please wait a moment and don't shutdown your system!
_

Well I don't have an optical drive, or the support CD, so the USB was my only option.

The file I downloaded was named "P8Z68-V-LE-ASUS-4102.ROM" which is slightly different from what the name should be when it appeared in the BIOS.

I put it onto a USB, loaded it, and it took me to the same screen. So I waited for five minutes and nothing changes. I would think this is longer than " a moment"...

I[strike] then rename the file to exactly what it matched on the BIOS and I'm now stuck at a black screen.[/strike]
I also cleared the CMOS and re-seated the ram.

Temperatures are not a problem. The cpu was running around 32 C idle when it was working.
--------------------------------------------

I think downloading one of these programs might solve it, not sure though. I'll go ahead and list them anyway.

[strike]Bios Renamer for USB BIOS Flashback and Crashfree BIOS 2[/strike] Figured out all it does is rename the file.

or

Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS.

The USB only had the renamed BIOS file on it, nothing else.

--------------------------------------------
Update One: [strike]I loaded the latest BIOS as well as the BIOS renamer to a flash drive. It goes back to the recovery mode screen, sigh.[/strike]

Update Two: I ran the renamer program and all it did was change the name of the ROM. Something I already did before. Now it just goes straight to a black screen when booted. But the fans now run at high speeds, a setting I changed in the BIOS before I updated it.

--------------------------------------------

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds really frustrating. First of all, worst case you need to file an rma and wait. Best case, try removing and reinstalling the cmos battery followed by a reinstall of all vital parts.... Try remounting the cpu cooler maybe

That's the thing, I can't rma it because I bought them used. They worked fine at the beginning but now I'm worried I bricked the motherboard with a bios update 🙁

Before I bought it the seller showed me it was working in his system.

I reset the CMOS literally about five times now. I don't think the CPU cooler is the problem because when it worked it ran around 32 C idle.

By now I've clicked about every link on google with people that had the same problem as me and most of them seemed to solve it with the BIOS file.

I'll go ahead and reinstall the CPU when I get back to see if there are bent pins and also to clean the dusty 212 EVO.

What format is the USB thumb drive?

That's more common than you'd think, it's happened to me before. If you want to go ahead and skip the drama of being denied by ASUS because you're not the original owner, you can buy one here for $16

He always puts the latest version on, I've bought from him two or three times now.

Most motherboards have it so it can be removed/replaced with a pair of tweezers or pliers. Which will be possible with your board, here it is highlighted in yellow

I put a little 40mm fan on for the thermal armor of a P67 Sabertooth I owned in the past. That thing was kind of loud, sure you could get a quieter one, obviously less airflow, but why not just not have any armor and let the air from the CPU cooler or from the case's airflow do the work? I find it gimmicky, looks and sounds like a good idea, but in practice you will find that it's not very effective. From the bits of PCB you can see on that board, it looks to be white! I would be inclined to just remove the armor for a pretty unique looking motherboard.

Also, plus one to ASUS for the 90 degree USB 3.0 connector, talk about something that should be a standard.

Yeah the white base for the motherboard tripped me out a bit, take the thermal armor off and display that in an all white case and that would be a thing of beauty. Also definitely agree on the 90 degree USB 3.0 connector!

That's what I was getting at. My original Z77 Extreme 9 had a bad ROM (D0) and after a single 5 minute phone call ASRock sent me a new one in less than week. The turn around time for it was faster than Neweggs RMA...

Stick's suggestion is great.

That's a very good suggestion, Stick, I might be needing one as my Asus Maximus III Formula sometimes acts up during boot ups and I need to manually key in settings otherwise the settings are all wonky from the get go. Changed out the mobo battery and I yet see the same issue.

The Thermal armor is also a gimmick, alot of modders have been covering their mobo and Asus thought of going that route as it helps facilitate painting the mobo without painting the PCB itself. It is questionable though as you will see better thermals overall without that armor however I also think there are airflow guide's/channels incorporated into the armor to facilitate proper airflow over key components and is not not just a piece of plastic shroud over VRM/mosfet heatsinks.

Before Asus, the MSI Mpower mobo you had, Stick, brought in the 90 deg internal USB 3.0 connector. Good to see it's catching momentum!
