My old system randomly died one day. It would hang at the boot screen and then it stopped working completely. Replaced the PSU with the XFX 550W PRO; did not solve the problem. I think it's been around four months since I've been without my desktop and I just bought the new parts this weekend (mobo, cpu, ram).

IMO on your old PC your motherboard probably broke. On this new one, it's tough to say. It could just be a faulty board. Since your fans are all running it is a good indication, but no video output does not make much sense.

You said you did everything in the no boot or post sticky?

I have thought about getting a 4k monitor, but honestly I use my PC at home like 3 hours a week. I just don't have time after work. My GF and I would rather do something else. It's kind of weird to not really touch my PC anymore.

As far as 4k goes, I have thought about buying one and the necessary GPU upgrade, but I need to buy wheels and tires for my car soon and I REALLY am against putting that kind of stuff on the credit card. I know its stupid, but I'm one of those people that pays my credit card in full every month. Maybe in January I'll consider it once I don't have any other big purchases coming.

I don't think it is stupid. It's smart.

Anybody know of a good white LED for a computer? All I can find are LED strips which I don't want. For example, my case has a very nice small single white light in the top corner that I really like. I would like something as simple as that that plugs into a 3-pin fan connector.

No, I meant the fans run when I tested the PSU by itself by shorting the "PS ON" pin. When I try starting it in the system nothing happens. I thought my old Z68 motherboard went bad as well...

The new motherboard isn't faulty since it has been tested before I bought it.

Yes I did everything in the sticky.

I don't have any big purchases either. Both of my PCs are up to date. Except for the monitor. I really want a 4K, but I could also go 1440P and be fine. I'm tired of 1080P though. I would like to be able to pay my credit card in full but considering I don't make a lot of money at the moment (working full time + going to school full time) that's not an option.

Although my parents seem to think my 4K monitor purchase is more ridiculous than my brother purchasing a $500 bear proof cooler.

Okay, let's analyze this. The power supply obviously is working because when you manually turn it on it runs. When plugged into the motherboard, it does not turn on.

I can think of two things.

1) you're jumping the wrong pins
2) The jumping just ain't working

Since the BIOS should work without a CPU, and the computer should at least have some indication of something happening when the RAM is good or bad, it is not the CPU or RAM, so it's definitely the motherboard if anything.

I would get an actual case with a power switch cable and see then if it works.

Are you sure it can boot without a CPU? I don't think my motherboard has that feature but I will look into it. Going to mount the D-15 on my Z97 build and the 212+ on the Z68.

I will double check the pins once I get it all assembled.

Well I'm not 100% sure I am quite sure it can but yours has a CPU in it anyway so it should.

I don't know much about jumpstarting with screw drivers either so I wouldn't take my words with authority on those two topics 😛

Who knows, who cares  I'm just happy everything is working.

My old HDD with a few games on it worked, decided to try some out. I was surprised with the results and that was at stock performance. Going to overclock it after I reinstall Windows.

Newegg has a sale on the 850 Pros. They all come with a code for Assassin's Creed Syndicate which Im selling and Im sure I can get at least $30.

Should I go for the 512 GB at $200 or just say "screw it" and grab the 1 TB for $387?? Trying to build a great video editing/gaming PC that will last me awhile but I also want to save money where I can.

It's some cheap no name paste that I forgot what is said on the packaging... I have the screw in cooler and it's in pretty snug... Although, I peaked at 63C on both my CPU and GPU.... I think it just needs to cure a bit
