The sound software is not installed properly or has been disabled error in vista

Hello,
I installed 'Starting to Read' CD in my computer with vista as OS. The installation went on ok but when I run the program, I get this error and the program closes. It is working fine in my friend's computer who is having XP as OS. kindly help. Thanks
