What I think he means is this: Xbox, PS, and Nintendo are computers in a basic sense developed for one task and one task alone handling gaming software. A computer on the other hand is rarely used for gaming only but for multiple things meaning MS can use a lower end chipset compared to PCs because that chipset is only outputting one video type of content with their processor only focusing on one task gaming, along with other miniscule things but they never run at the same time. Exception music stored on your hdd of an xbox. But even then some games will not operate the music while the game is in play. Hence "closed environment". PCs on the other hand are made for multitasking and while you may not notice it while gaming your cpu will more than likely still be processing parts of a particular program. Example: MS Office- notice that when you forget to save a document in word you are able to pull it back in within 30mins to an hour (sometimes longer) because that particular part of the program stores the information in your ram. Which if you being to game your performance may slack a little if you have a small amount of ram. Just an example but your cpu handles more than you may think. That is just a guess at what he means. Still a console will never outperform a pc using the latest and greatest system just cant keep up.

i believe that they do the deal is PC games engines sometimes dont communicate with the chipset maker unless they are basing their game off of it. I mean for example look at swtor using a 550ti i was getting 40-60 fps on fleet city (if you dont play that is the main city where the most players usually are) yet the games graphics are NO where near as demanding it would seem as Skyrim or BF3 yet with better graphics i stay around 50-70fps. Makes no sense right? The graphic engine is the problem along with optimization. Sometimes they just dont communicate; best example i can give you is the Wii notice that nintendo designed games looked better than 3rd party titles.( yes wii graphics suck its just an example) But they did thats because nintendo is so reluctant to give out information so 3rd party titles have a hard time optimizing their titles to use the systems full capability.

I think they are trying to keep the cost as low as they can popping in a 6850 (costs roughly around $140 consider mass purchasing discount they would probable pay $80 for each one while the 6770 is going for $100 mass purchasing discount they are probably paying $40-$50 for) makes the console cheaper in the end although $800 compared to $1000 doesnt seem like much it is when people are considering purchasing a new system. I would pay $800 for a new console but not a $1000 just sounds like a bigger investment

Console games run at 30FPS, not 60.

Console games run with low graphics - no AA and no AF.

Console games use a gamepad.

Please get off this forum. NOW.

A. This is a friendly forum last I checked with mature adults hopefully
B. Telling me Get off now for a response to a question is a bit ridiculous
C. Never said consoles run a 60fps but some titles do check your information

yes you can see obvious screen tears all i was doing was saying a 6770 is feasible not impossible

A 6670 may be weak compared to many modern video cards, but it's power efficient and runs cool while walking all over the current consoles.

Has anyone here played BF3 on the 360 and PC? I'm use to BF3 1440x900 low settings with a radeon 5670, it looks far better on PC still than it does 360. I played COD 4 when it was new on 360 thought it looked great, played it at a later time on PC, and first time I tried to play COD Black Ops on 360 I was beyond appauled and quit playing due to horribly low res textures and terrible visuals.

Entertaining thread. Funny how people get so uptight with pc vs. console debate - even on a primarily pc related forum. I never understand the reason for banter back and forth. There are some facts that everyone who has any background in both platforms shoulc be able to agree on.

- Devs love developing for consoles because of economies of scale (revenue / effort = higher profits for consoles, not to mention fixed hardware configurations to develop around makes it easier). This will never change.

- Consoles are relatively cheap for the cost conscience consumer (which is most people).

- Console games still look great to a non-pc enthusiast (someone who doesn't understand what SLI/Crossfire/DX11 is). How "good" a game looks depends on your frame of reference. If all you've known the past 7 years was xbox 360 graphics, I bet BF3 on the platform looks pretty good to you. If you own a computer with GTX580s in SLI running the game in DX11 at 2560x1600, of course the xbox version is going to look like a pile of garbage to you.

- The next xbox will certainly look better than current as it will be a graphical leap within its platform. Since a large majority of xbox players are not pc enthusiasts, this will seem like it can't possibly get any better (and will probably confirm to many that consoles must have just passed up the pc).

- PC will always have the capability to look [significantly] better than consoles - albiet at a higher price point. This is a fact simply due to the development cycle for a new console and the requirement to hit a pricepoint where they can sell 5-10 million units in year one. By the time the console makers commit to the hardware for the bills of material, 2 more generations of graphics cards have been released to the pc market by the time they launch the final console to consumers. Due to the development cycle alone, consoles will never exceed pc's as it will always have "older" hardware.

- High end pc gaming will always be a niche, whereas console gaming will always be the majority. Therefore, the pc vs. console debates will always rage on since pc enthusiasts are very passionate about their platform and the majority of console players are simply unaware.

Just my $0.02 - even if you didn't ask for it. 😉

Console games run at 30fps not 60. And most arent solid. Alot of PS3 and Xbox games have massive FPS drops in it, GTR 6 if your going to fast and if u dont take the corner properly you can see the performance drop on it. Iv seen it to much with consoles where if a good amount of action goes on they drop down.

you are wrong, as Forza 4 which looks and runs stunningly running at 60fps on Xbox.

infact there are lots of 60FPS games on the 360.. (PC fan boys just hate consoles, as they smash PC's when it comes to price/performance ratio)

frame rate issues are mostly down to sloppy programing, not the hardware, PS3 suffers more than xbox due to weak GPU and only 256mb of Ram..

so saying consoles Cant or Don't, is False!

and just a side note here, just because i have played Xbox 360 for 7 years nearly, don't mean i don't play games on PC also.. im a gamer, i game on ALL platforms. tho most my PC gaming is mostly RPG/MMORPG games.

thats not a fair thing to say the price/performance thing. you can make a 500 dollar pc now a days that would destroy the ps3 or xbox.

and thats just ignorance, it is a fact that xbox 360 was as good as any gaming rig when the xbox was launched almost 7 years ago!

and as i said, it wasn't long after that before pc hardware that was readily available to the normal consumer caught up and took the lead, it took about 10-12 months.

yes!!! because look how old the xbox is!!

im talking on LAUNCH!! you would not of had a hope in hell of doing that back when the xbox was launched.

You need to realize the performance at 60 fps onxbox is without any bells n whistles.
Aa af vsync, ssao, dof, hi rez textures; the list goes on.
Consoles when released are based on tech at time of development which means by the time of release pcs are already ahead.
Consoles make gaming available to.those who cant afford to.be on the bleeding edge of gaming
but that as well impedes progress with gaming in general because there.are.few companies that will develop pc as lead platform due to money and availability. Numbers always win.
Just imagine gears 3 with pc as lead platform... It would have been far better looking than it was already with Aa ssao better volumnetric lighting, shadows and dof. Just look at the difference in bf3 metro and soon to be witcher 2 on console vs pc. Theres no ground to stand on which is superior in that aspect

me thinks that cow already left the barn

oh yeah, you can watch pr0n on them, huh?

Really!?

AGAIN!! read my posts!! you are comparing NEW! VS OLD!

ill say this again shall i!?

AT Launch!! OK? lets say it again!! at LAUNCH!

the PC had no upper hand on Xbox 360 games at all! now 7 years down the road.. and yes! the PC is better.. (A newer PC that is).

and that's what i been saying for ages! (in just about every post actually)

im willing to bet that you cant build a $199 pc that will play witcher 2 enhanced edition as well and looking as good as the xbox does.. using new or old tech.. i especially bet you cant buy a PC that's 7 years old that will run it, Period! let alone as nice as it will on Xbox 360..

you also have to remember that even tho you see a certain GPU that will or is used in a console, its not like they just flat out use that card "As Is", its customized and the systems are costly, MS lose a great deal of money selling xbox's cheaper than it actualy costs to make,

you think Alienware/Asus/Battalion and all these other gaming rig manufactures do this stuff at a loss? lol.. of course not, they would never make the money back.

That isnt the point.
The point is when consoles are released they are already oler.tech on obsolete.machines. One of the reasons for.price. They are budget gaming machines.
Pcs at the time of the Xbox release had.been there for.a.year already.

No they was not!, at xbox 360 release time, they were right up there with all the good gamer rigs. i remember how great Fear and CoD2 was on the 360, both them games were certainly no better on the PC, i even had a Dual X1950 ATI setup about a year after F.E.A.R come out and it was not untill then, that the PC really started leaving xbox behind..

However, the PS3 WAS! behind the times on launch as it launched with a worse GPU than even the xbox did and it was 1 year later!

it seriously under performs compared to xbox chip set.. Xbox 360 displays up to 500,000,000 polygons per second compared to only 275,000,000 for the PS3 im not sure on clock speeds, i think they are about the same, but its no secret that the xbox really does out perform the ps3 on any game.. it produces much much better lighting and shading..

and i know fear come out the following year on xbox.. i didnt say otherwise.. i was just saying how great it looked, it was fantastic.
