These cards, too much for my system?

Hey guys. Recently my 5 year old computer died, didn't have much money so I bought these:

AMD Athlon X2 64 7750
Gigabyte M61PME-S2P
2gigs of ddr2 kingston 800mhz

Now, would a 9600gt or even 9800 gt be overkill for this system? Can I use cards as good as these to their full efficiency?

The reason I'm asking this is that I bought those parts above for real cheap, for like 160$ total and I thought, since they were cheap they could be crap, and wouldn't let me use a decent card properly.

And finally I want to mention that my aim is to play games like Fallout 3, COD4, GTA4 with decent graphics.

Thank you.

P.S : Forgot to mention my 4 year old psu : http://www.com-1.de/img/products/pdf2/11089.pdf

I agree that you would likely be better off with Radeon HD 4770. That set up should be fine, you shouldn't have much trouble out of it with the 4770.

And you can play GTA IV on a 2 core but be prepared to turn the settings waaaay down or less you will end up with a laggy mess rather then a game. I have done it on my laptop which is a core 2 duo.

Well, I always liked Nvidia more to be honest, and I also like to keep an Ubuntu besides my Windows so with Nvidia I'd have driver support for linux also.

What's bothering me is that I've checked a few benchmarks and they show that 4770 clearly better performance than 9800gt and sometimes even HD4850. So weird.
