[citation][nom]randomizer[/nom]Why not Australia? We're so far out of the way that in the case of an alien invasion the invaders probably wouldn't see us.[/citation]

You're forgetting the grand plan is when the aliens arrive and ask us where the United States is so they can invade it, we'll give them a map with Australia labeled USA and they'll invade you instead since aliens don't have maps.

True I agree with you, but if an asteroid impacts the earth, i think the internet would be the least of all our problems, its not like they have eyes, and say "oooh lets impact the USA" What did i say about earthquakes? an earthquake has to be at least probably 11 or 12 or the Richter scale (which i think isn't even possible not sure though) to generate an earthquake so strong, as to create a tsunami to "wipe out the islands" Indonesia's position on the globe caused that, as it lays i the most volcanic and earthquake active region on the globe.. I dont hear anyone talking about if Yellowstone Super Volcano erupts? I would be Bye Bye America now wouldn't it? and probably the rest of the world..[citation][nom]CTPAHHIK[/nom]Hurricane is unlikely to do any significant damage. If there is asteroid impact or earthquake islands will be wiped out by tsunami.[/citation]

Hey everyone? I just realized everyone's getting the wrong idea... This is in case someone hacks the internet, e.g. you type in Google.com but your web browser carries you go to findthebestporn.com (LOL). I believe its called Domain Validity or something like that. This hacking is unlikely to happen, but, its not impossible. THATS why seven keys were given out, of which only FIVE are needed to reset the internet.

[citation][nom]Wittermark[/nom]China was the third country in history to send a man to space, one of the 6 countries to develop nuclear technology (in the 50's), and a booming industry with double digit economic growth for the past decade, also sporting one of the best internet security experts in th world. I'm pretty sure I have no doubt in their abilities. so yea, really.[/citation]

i think his point is...what if CHINA heads the attack on our internets? we're not exactly good buddies right now. 😛

So really what they are saying is that in the event the root domain name servers get compromised they can force a world wide revalidation of every DNS query or request? ... in that case the internet is far from down it just means we would have to get nifty and use IP addresses and local DNS cache to browse the web. While your local DNS cache could be compromised (and in many cases already is to some extend) 74.125.77.99 will always bring you to the nice and clean google start page (if dropped in your browser that is).

Burkino Faso will probably sell their key to the highest bidder when the dicta..., I mean President, wants a new Mercedes. And giving China a key is just asking for trouble if you ask me. Then again, the Americans probably have a few tricks up their sleeves to circumvent China's key when necessary.

U.S.:Alright guys, now that we're all gathered here, let's get our keys out. Where's your key, Burkina Faso.
Burkina Fase:Goddamit, I shouldn't have ate it.

lol illiteracy is widespread on this forum, you require 5 out of 7 keys to reboot the internet, and what do you expect China can do with a single key? so I don't see where all these "fears" are coming from. this isn't they key to launch the nuclear arsenal, neither is this the key for access of sensitive information. THIS IS SIMPLY ONE OF THE MANY KEYS REQUIRED TO REBOOT INTERNET. THATS IT. you people make it sound like China is going out to their ways to terrorize the continents. get an education

[citation][nom]getritch[/nom]i think his point is...what if CHINA heads the attack on our internets? we're not exactly good buddies right now.[/citation]

lmao if china wants to attack the internet, they don't need a key to reboot the internet to do it. let alone it being a single key, which is completely useless by itself.

China is US' 2nd largest trading partner, most major american corporations have branches and headquarters in China, more than 60% of your consumer products are made in China. if you are that against China, stop using them, boycott China, do it, see how that turns out. let me know too.

LOL
Reboot the internet. such a funny thing.,
They said that so all you NOOBS can have something that you can hold on-to. Just like your dolly. some security.
In reality the word reboot is not correct. the workd re-authenticate
and re-connect a bunch of Unix computers and routers is correct.
But if hit the fan.. Any country can start there own internet.. and later on connect to other country's with re-negotiated secure connections. Rather sad to think that these people have the solution.. Well they do .. but only for there scenario, where they still have controll.
perhaps not if goes down.

I must give you all the credit you deserve. This was the best joke in months, special credit to the guy who humiliated himself by saying 'NOOB' on a public forum.

Pray tell what combination of those countries would ever get together and agree on anything, much less get together in a bunker in the US?

The damned internet is going to take a year to get rebooted ...

It was better off when the crew from The IT Crowd had it under control and in a small box ...

Sheesh ...

Lucky BP doesn't have one of the keys ...

These are the people who took part of the East coast signing ceremony, but another seven people participated in the West Coast ceremony.
