Question Thunderbolt power question

Monitors can run without power supplies off Thunderbolt ports. As can external HDD enclosures.

Do Thunderbolt compatible monitors if connected to a Thunderbolt motherboard, then add load to the PSU, and how much?

Thunderbolt seems to transmit less watts than large monitors with power cables are rated as using.

How does this work? It includes a daisy chained second Thunderbolt monitor. Does it all add to psu and how much?

Where else do you think the power comes from in a system, if the monitor/display isn't tether to an external power source?

The power draw will be the same for the monitor regardless of what source of power the panel has. Reduction in wires is the goal with consolidating connectors to do more than one task, in this instance, feeding power apart from data through said line.

So the answer is it draws from PSU. Which means everyone going to thunderbolt should beware the PSU may need bumping up, if that's how TB works.

1300 watts which is MSI's ATX 3 seems a bit low now. 1500-1600 seems safer, but again there's no Platinum grade 1500w+3.0 PSUs out yet.

Update. Read that it theoretically should be possible, but thunderbolt only covers data/video throughput and charging.

So it seems like thunderbolt monitors have power cables.
