Alright guys...I've decided I'm going to upgrade my PC. Ive decided I'm going to get a desktop. Instead of boring you with mundane details about my current setup..let me simply preface my post by stating I do not need a monitor or any other peripherals...simply the tower.

My budget is around $1000. I want to get the best system possible. I do some gaming...

Obviously I would like to get the best value for my money and I'm asking here instead of being brainwashed by salespeople.

Questions:

1. Can I reasonably expect to buy a unit that wont be overly outdated in the next 2-3 years for this price range?

2. Most importantly, what combination of processor and memory should I be looking for?

3. I already own a GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog GPU (sitting in my closet)...from what I know this is still a decent GPU so I don't *think* I need one...will upgrade this in the future.....

Again, looking for the best possible setup for the money....something that I wont need to upgrade for a couple years.

Thanks in advance!!

Right..I plan on upgrading that in the future...

I have a few other questions..

1. Will I really need that Extra Cooling Fan? (Extra Case Fan: Maximum Enemax 120MM Case Cooling Fan- 1000 RPM Eniobal Magnetic Barometric Bearing 17 dba )

2. Do I really need the upgraded Cooling Fan Venom Boost Extreme OC Xigmatek Dark Knight-S1283V Gaming CPU cooling Fan (Double layer HDT technology for maximum cooling) or can I just go with the stock Intel LGA1156 Certified CPU Fan & Heatsink

3. As far as the Motherboard..this seems to be one of the cheapest offered on the site I'm looking at getting this system.....is it reliable/upgradable in the future? ([CrossFireX/SLI] EVGA P55 TR Intel P55V Chipset DDR3 Socket 1156 mATX Mainboard w/ 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, USB2.0, SATA-II RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe, & 2 PCIe X1)

4. With this new DDR3 memory, is 8GB really needed or can I save some money towards getting a new GPU and just get 4GB?

No, u don't need the extra cooling fan if your temps are good.
Yes, HDT is very good cooling system, much better than the stock cooling.
With that system, u can survive about 2-3 years, so it's very good.
If u can, why not? 8GB is good for now and for future, it's DDR3, newest tech... :)
