[SOLVED] Tips for a new PC build

Hi

I am going to build my next PC (last one built in 2012 with key clarifications from this great forum. Thanks very much once again for all who clarified). My major doubts are:

1. I want a quiet PC and so going for a low-profile GPU. I have in mind Asus GeForce GT 710 2GB GDDR5 (HDMI,VGA,DVI) (GT710-SL-2GD5-CSM). I am not a gamer. The resolution supported is only 1080*800 Bits. Will it work fine with my full hd monitor and 4K TV? (I use it sometimes). With my existing Core I7 2nd gen processor, though it doesn't support UHD, everything is fine on my 4K TV. No pixellation. Even small text looks as good as it is on the FHD monitor. But if I use this GPU, can I expect the same performance? I don't like pixellated text at all.

2. I am thinking about liquid cooling for the CPU over fans since they would be quieter. Are they more efficient than fan based coolers? Are they too costly?

Btw, planning to buy AMD this time (may go for Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzen 7 5800X or Ryzen 5 5600X).

To answer your questions...

1. It does natively support 4k as per NVidia spec sheet, but not mentioned at what refresh rate. So that could either be 30hz or 60hz. For productivity that is not a factor but for media consumption, that difference might matter at times depending on file codec...

2. Liquid cooling is not always necessarily more efficient or quieter unless you go extreme top tier which is not value for money, contrary to popular belief...

What is your budget and location, and what do you plan to do with the PC??? If you are not gaming and want AMD, you can go with one of their APUs which is good value for money.

The Vega 8 iGPU is way better than the 710.

First of all my humble thanks!

1. I want a workstation (software development and occasionally Photoshop) come HTPC (Nice to have good video and audio right? ).

2. I am living in Chennai, India (Prices are slightly more here always) (Pls don't bother about the prices here, I will check that out).

3. I am now comparing Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 5700G. 5700G's price here is slightly more than 5600x and the GPU bundled together. For me, even if the price is slightly more I will go for it if it will perform better and quieter.

4. 5600x has 16 MB more L3 cache and supports PCIE4. 5700G supports only PCIE 3. Will that make any difference in performance?

5. In what way Vega 8 iGPU is better than the 710? If you can throw some light on that, it will be great!

6. Is there any better Intel CPU around a similar price point?

PCIe4 will not make much difference for your workload other than NVME speeds which may or may not influence Photoshop depending on file size. Then again we are talking about milliseconds difference.

5700g is bound to be more expensive than 5600x because it has 2 additional cores. If you dont want the extra cores, look into 5600g.
