Changed? No, nothing has really changed.

As for the ranting... I sometimes think it's gotten worse, but it could be just me... Welcome back to this little realm of chaos, Eden!

Thank you, thank you.

PS- Good to see you again.

LOL, well, I'll try to drop by more often. I just have this absurd hate of reading long things lately, especially articles or books. Kinda doesn't mix well with school though.
So I'll see how I can fit this forum's content into me mind. The OTHER forum is where I go do my daily mockery as well as show how much (or how little)I know about sex, haha!

Oh and just for BB, I will come back to fill this forum with "uneducated information".
BBaeyens, you're my sweetheart!

I always was flexible. As for me being Intellish, LOL. Heheh, ahh I remember the days of me filling threads here bashing on someone who started accusing me of that!

I did hope I could try a P4 system for an upgrade, but Scotty is bayd, so I think another AMD will do me well. Depends anyway if I still have that much interest in more performance these days.

Yeah Quebec's been treating us bad, but the weather lately is much hotter. Less windchill, more dry weather!

Dont tell anyone I suggested it, but the 2.8c with a little extra on the fsb is a pretty good setup for the next while. Scotty may make something of itself as will the a64, but it will be a while before either of them will have any % of the market.
Glad things are warming up, an icy wind in your face is no way to go through the day.

Hey Eden, good to see you back. I hadnt noticed your posts, as I've swapped identities, and therefore didnt get a mail notification. from now on you may address me as P4man (my normal nick on pretty much any other place), but I'm still very much the same guy, so think before you post 😉

DAng.. just when I hoped I had debunked a few urban legends on this forum, Eden comes back, and now I can start all over again 😛

Nowadays, it is possible to buy an athlon system in any computer shop.
In any computer shop? If only that were indeed so.

And finally, everyone who is even remotely interested in computers knows about AMD.
Again, everyone? Snorkius, your heart is in the right place, but you are quite unfortunately naive. If you had said almost anyone who is even remotely interested in working on computers then I would readily agree. However as you stated things there is a definitely large category of people whom are interested in owning a computer and yet do not know about AMD. In fact I have met many computer owners who do not even know about Intel and are under the delusion that companies such as Gateway or Dell make the entire computer and every component therein. 😱

Ill agree that they have little national marketing, but that stems from the fact that intel has been firmly intrenched in it for years and was already entreched whne AMD came on the market.
That is a considerable misnomer. When AMD first 'came on the market' they were producing chips at the behest of Intel. Some of these even carried the AMD name. When Intel released the Pentiums AMD released the K5s and K6s. These were 'on the market' at a time when Intel was far from entrenched and could have easily been topped by solid competition. Intel succeeded over AMD not because they were entrenched, not because they had market share, and not even because they offered performance and stability, but simply because they had the production capability to provide for an entire market and the marketing to reach that market. There was a demand and they had the supply. AMD did not have that supply and did not try hard enough to even create a demand.

For a company that focuses fmore on development then marketing on a national scale, Id say thats pretty good.
I would say that for a company that has made so many bad choices that is pretty good.

Intel's marketing has saved itself many times over, when thier new cpu may not have performed up to snuff. The reason for that is, the general public doesnt care, they just want something that works.
If that were true then the Duron would have taken the lion's share of the market because of its price and it is "something that works". No, you are looking at it from a far too technical side. It was simply about production and marketing. Even had AMD been able market their product with skill and elicit desire from every corner of the world (which they most certainly never had the skill to do), they still lacked the production capabilities to meet any serious demand. You cannot take a serious bite of market share if you lack the deliverable quantity necessary to take that share.

Intel has the supply to meet the demand that they created. AMD has had difficulty creating either supply or demand, and certainly has never succeeded in creating both simultaneously.

Thats exactly my point. Intel was able to better market thier chips, even when amd may have had competitive chips, so you never saw them gain any share. As far as them not being entrenched form the start, thats true, they did start out at the same time basically. Sure they made mistakes, althought they arent the only company that has made mistakes, they just did it in different areas. At this point, its almost a wash between the two, either one could potentially gain in the market. Even with the bad marketing practices at AMD, I still think they have a good chance of taking more of the market. AMD doesnt even need to relaly invest in some national promotional ad, all they need to do to make a significant inroad into the market is target its biggest base, the oem. Now Im sure MOST, if not all , have heard of AMD and probably used them at one time or another. Intel just seems to be sitting there, yeha they have thier usualy public marketing, but I dont see alot behind the scenes, I dont see the excitement form oem dealers. AMD can capitilize on this, and they are starting to do so. It may be a very slow move, small steps in the server market with IBM, Sun, HP; or gaining more ground with gateway buying out emachines, possibly bringing amd chips ot the mainstream. In the end, trying to market to the public is uselss at this point. Most poeple dont know and dont care if its intel of amd. If dell or gateway or soemone like that has a computer that is in thier price, they take it. In the end I see hwo things are now as a pretty level playing field, its open for AMD to make some moves, wether they will or not is anyone's guess. I mean AMD has been doing fine with what it has now, after making its frist profit in several months. Sure its not the ebst, compared to intel, but its good none the less and its time they built on thier new success. This year and the early part of next year is very important for AMD. If they can hold on to thier plans without delays, then it will be a very long wait to see how tejas performs next year for intel.

Holy crap, I didn't think that was you. The P4Man I read a little in this forum on, definitely sounded more "rational" than BB LOL, though I thought he stole his sig. Oh well, you sound like you calmed your anger towards me, hehe.

For the record, my disappearance is justified in the OTHER forum. I ain't sharin' and wastin' this forum with spam. I'll see if I can drop by more often.

BTW why "P4Man"? Just a tad bit controversial especially when it regards you!

Ignorance and blind faith still make me angry at times, but that is hardly a personal thing, nor has it been. However, if I see you typing once more something like "64 bit is usless, cause we won't need 4 GB of RAM before 200x", ...I'll get very personal with ya :)

I'll check it out, though I never really come there. I read a few things left and right here, and sure hope you're doing better. Been there, done that, and damn sure don't wish it on anyone.

That is a long story I don't even remember 100% myself; don't read too much in it, it had something to do with those phoney P4ES pictures on THG. I posted a fake P4 8 GHz picture to show how easy it is to tamper with those things using that nick in reply to an "AMDman" or something, and somehow the nickname stuck. Since I've been using P4man on other forums and some published parodies ever since, I changed it here as well; especially as I think its a better idea to use a nick than my real name (privacy and all that,...).

Can you post that pic again?

It seems I have deleted the P4ES pic, only found this fake 5200+ hammer pic I did at the same time:

In IBM's official data (22.01.04) for 90nm PowerPC 970FX TDP is ... 24,5 W.
At 2Ghz. TDP 85W at 2,5Ghz is not probable. Value between 30 and 50W TDP however is.
Compare it with AMD's 53FX 2.4Ghz possible TDP of ... 110W. Well, technologies are not the same, as AMD's is 130nm and IBM's is 90nm, but both are SOI based.
However, interesting is power consumption with 90nm Prescott 3,8 Ghz with TDP of 110W at 90nm bulk. Seems IBM's technology this year is far ahead for similar performance. In power consumption seems half of competitors' the best value.
Will it be ready for volume production this year is another question

Does that look like me anyway.I agree with you on that i dont think that PC970 will dissipate only 30 watt unless it run at 1 ghz

Just to show dad

Juin learn to use quotes PLEASE. Good thing I know all posts on Aces' by heart, so I know you are actually quoting a post by ASIP on Aces' forum, and I know where asip's posts ends and where yours start.. sheesh.

And yes, you do sound like him at times.

Please tell me you wrote that on purpose just to annoy me.. please... please tell me you understood by now that 4 Gigs of RAM is not the issue.. neither when we will ever use it.. but contiguous virtual memory is the issue.. please ? PLEASE ?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !!

BTW, 1 Gig is common now.. If you bookmarked that infamous thread, I'd be curious to see if I was wrong so far..

Heheheh, well well, I haven't forgotten THAT fast all that you wrote LOL.

And yes, I WAS serious about our little "bet". After all, a little bit of guessing by innocent forum bystanders wouldn't hurt, EH?

My next upgrade will have 1Gig, true. Let's bet on whether people will jump to 1.5Gig or 2Gig next time.

PS: UFO_Warviper suffered some Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and is slowly recovering, he posted a thread in the OTHER forum. I also participated with a long post on what I went through in case you are curious. I also hope UFO recovers, dude's a really nice guy here.

I think 1Gig for next upgrades will probably be very commonplace! But 1.5 is a tough one... it requires a strange memory module configuration (1GB+512MB). Because 384 (128+256) and 768 (256+512) never quite got around, I suppose the logical step forwards would be... 2GB.

As for UFO... What on earth?... Our forum members just keep falling apart!! What are we to do? 😱 Who'll be next? ***looks around in paranoia***

(just joking, don't take me seriously...)
