I just got a new inspiron 5150 that was preloaded with windows home and a bunch of dell stuff I tried to install windows xp pro over it but I think I installed it alongside xp home. Now when I power on It ask me if I want to boot Home or Pro. How do I get rid of the home install ?

Sounds like the two OS versions in the same partition in a separate folder, a definite No No!

Your best bet is to comlpetely uninstal and format the hard drive and then instal XP Pro.

There are occasionaly problems encountered with these Dell mass produced PC's with sepecific drivers, etc, preinstalled on the original OS CD!

Give it a go. If no good you can always in the meantime reinstal the original OS CD.
One other thing to be aware of- is the original OS CD contain a full WinXP Home OS or just a repair CD?

I always do a full format when i get machines with pre loaded software. That way you can get all the latest drivers etc and you know exactly what is loaded on there.

You'll find you have less problems and your machine will be much faster!

Someone please unwire me...the gadgets are taking over!
