Top Fan Placement

I want to mount a fan in the top of my case. How do I figure out where to mount it?
Do I mount it in the center of the whole case or in the center of the open area or some other way?

It depends on the case but you should see the area to mount it in very easily when your psu and a cdrom drive is installed. The gap between them

I have a Lian-Li V1200. The PSU is on the bottom. So I guess I need to center it between the CDROM & the back of thee case?

Ah, I have that case as well
If I was puttin a fan hole in mine I'd put it in the top area somewhere between that upright to hold in expantion cards and the edge of the motherboard tray. That way cool air can be sucked in and reach most things in the upper portion of the case.
