Here's my rant: Wanna know what to do?

Go to your local music shop/game store and buy it.
Copy it.
Take it back and tell them it wasn't what you thought it was...get your money back.

Plain and simple, if you want to pirate and not get caught...that's the way to do it...as long as you don't go putting the disk image online or giving a copy to everyone and their dog.

Only catch is: you have to get off your butt...and maybe buy a $30 DVD-RW.

The RIAA can't stand in the front door of Best Buy and interrogate every customer. Well, they could. But, they're just as lazy (and even cheaper) than the average consumer is nowadays.

Personally, I pay for my stuff. But, I'm lucky to have a job. Not everyone does.

But, to sit here and moan about the RIAA and MPAA and Warner Bros. and Arista/Elektra/Asylum and Metallica...

If you want to beat them, you have to play the game better than them. Use the system (retail sector) like they are doing (with internet providers and the courts).

Personally, I can't blame anyone for pirating a game or a music CD.

New music CDs are still as expensive on release as they were when the technology was new in the early 90s and expensive to manufacture.

And I was shocked at the price of a new game for the gaming systems...$60? $70? WTF?!?!

I know that there's a lot of cost in developing, implementing, marketing, etc., a new product. But if you have 250,000 customers for a $60 game, I think you are more than going to make back your investment.

I think it's time for the business sector to step up, evaluate what they are promising shareholders in dividends and paying their executives. They have already cut their workforce and its benefits/perks.

It's time to do it across the board, and bring that savings to the financially ailing consumer market.

Problem is WHY/WHAT is illegal? they change the rules to fit whatever makes money for them.

Originally only identical copies where illegal, then copies that were sold, then lower quality copies, and now you can't even make copies of your own stuff.
 
Making software/movie/music is there way of living. Torrents are a way to deprive them on there living. Hence its illegal. NOw we can stop asking the question what it legal and what it not.

I used isohunt before mininova and I'm pretty sure they were "sister sites".

ISOhunt appears to be near death also. I did a search for something and the newest result was 2 weeks old.

on another note... copyright, shmopyright... don't make me lay out my argument again... ok, i'll delve briefly into it.

I buy most of my stuff used, amazon... ebay, im not paying $15 for a cd. So, i buy a cd for $.99 + shipping off amazon, and whala.. i have a $3.99 cd... but you know what? The Musical artist and record company still see $0.00 of my money... so what difference does it make if I downloaded that "illegally" instead of buying it for $3.99 from amazon?

The only things I download though via torrent is subbed anime that is not going to be available in english for another year or two, and i for damn sure am not going to wait.
 
Just wondering...what would happen if TPB or Mininova moved their servers to a country that doesn't care much about copyright laws? Does anyone know?
 
If i remember correctly , Few years back some torrent sites where lookin for donation , so to collect enuff money to buy an ISLAND and host there stuffz from there.
Just think , Already America and rest of the world wants to boomb IRAN, if they had that island , it would have been traget for sure...
 
I still see huge bins full of dvds at WallMart with like 10 people always hovering over it! Is the industry really hurting that bad... I don't think so. I think they are just greedy bastards that want every penny they can get. If you really think about it you can record movies on a VHS or dvd/bluray recorder, are they going to ban that as well eventually.

Mininova was better than piratebay but with all the news sites posting about piratebay and then mininova, it put them too much into the spotlight and burned out the flame pretty fast. There's always going to be more torrent sites.

I'm not pro shutting these things down but the fact is, some day all the internet is going to revert back to how it was back in the early 1990's. It will be difficult to pirate software again some day. And with all this bandwidth, what will people do with it? Download porn all the time? I don't think so.

So now Mininova I don't know how that site will survive now, and yeah.. linux updates? yeah that is laughable but that is kinda sad..I wouldn't poke fun. On the other hand I'm sure glad I'm not dumb enough to host one of these types of sites, that is just asking for trouble.
 
Downloading music, movies, and programs without paying for them is theft - period. I've done it, but it is still theft.

P2P is doomed. ISPs are already being forced, by law, to turn over the identity of anyone observed using P2P. I know this because I got caught. And let's face it - 98% of what goes through P2P software is pirated content. A "three strikes, you're out" law is already in the works. Get caught downloading copyrighted material three times, and you lose your internet for life.

You can bellyache all you want. You can try to justify theft all you want. You can claim it is fair for you to steal because they've been stealing from us for years, but t won't matter. They'll do it, and they'll get away with it, and all the spin you can put on the stealing of copyrighted material won't make a damned bit of difference.

It was good while it lasted, but it is over.

Twist it and spin it all you want. Obtaining copyrighted material without paying for it is stealing - period. They may even deserve to have their copyrighted stuff stolen - but it is still stealing. If you don't like the price of something, you have the right NOT to buy it, but you do not have the right to steal it. If you think a car dealer wants too much for a car, do you have the right to steal the car???

Whine and spin all you want. P2P is going to die. ISPs are now required by law to give up your identity if you are sharing copyrighted material online. A "three strikes" law is in the process of becoming law - get caught sharing copyrighted material three times, and you lose your internet for life.

Don't like that? That's tough. They ARE going to stop P2P, and they're going to get away with it.

The best way to make DVD movie copies is to go to the public library and check out all that they have (documentaries, DVDs, CDs, etc.) and make a copy using DVD Decrypter. I've even burned movies right in the library and returned them! Whatever the local library doesn't have should be obtained through a rapidly rotated queue through a mail-in service such as Netflix or Blockbuster. Simply copy the DVD movies when you get them and immediately send them back! So long as you stay away from BluRay, you can build a huge collection really fast and play them back on TV using an HDMI out or a $99 standalone multimedia player.

I know people with over 10TB of hoarded computer goodies (hard drive space that is available right now for $695 / no tax and free shipping ... at ChiefValue and Newegg [i.e. five 2TB Hard Drives at $139 each). There's a lot of educational stuff out there to! Hurray!

Ok, but...the others sites? isohunt...gamestorrents...pctorrent...demonoid (the best)...axxofuperfundo...eztv...all this sites are .torrent sites, and not necesarlly all the material from this is pirated....

Pretty good round up, but(t) you're right that the ones that support the copyright laws are unthinking and ignorant fools. They don't question laws and they just take whatever is tossed in their face. You can some it up by asking them if they support the patriot act, and if they do they are lost. Anyone that supports giving away their freedom for the feeling of safety and bowing down to every law because its law will always be the weak ones enslaved by whoever is in power. They question nothing are are content with no stirring the pot.
