I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1402 that is acting up. It is five years old.
No driver update available and I have uninstalled/reinstalled. It will not
stay closed. It originally started having problems reading a disk and has
progressed to the tray coming right back out. Devise Manager shows no
problems. I am in the process of running Ad-Aware and Spybot. Is the drive
toast? Or is there something else I can check?
I am running win XP Pro, Spa2 on a Gateway P800. Any suggestions greatly
appreciated.

Replace the drive. DVD-ROM drives are so inexpensive now it's not worth
repairing that one.

Edward please help. I have been having a message and blue screen come
up saying dumping fiscal memory to disk. I figured it was the memory
and just replace it. The board is and intel D845WN 1gig mem. Now
after boot, I three beeps and no boot.

So it's toast. I was hoping it was just a computer glitch. Thanks for your
input.

Try reseating the memory in the socket(s). If you can get the system to
boot, download and run memtest86 (www.memtest86.com). You might also
want to run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic on the drive.
