Touchpad not working

Hello, I have a dell d600 laptop that I installed the linux/ubuntu o/s on a blank hard drive. It works great accept I can't get my touchpad mouse to work nor do I have the option to select it in the systems, hardware menu? Can anyone help me?

I imagine yours is probably a Synaptics (they're very common), so go to their website and look for a generic linux driver to download. I doubt Dell would have one for linux.
