Trick to installing Windows XP onto a SATA hard drive using a 3rd party SATA con

I need a recommendation for a cheap but effective PCI SATA controller. I'm picking up a bunch of Dell desktops at a surplus auction and they all lack hard drives. I could go back with IDE HDD's, but it just seems to make more sense to get more HDD for the $$ by going with SATA HDD's. So the BIG question is... is there a (inexpensive) 3rd party SATA controller that I can use to plug in a single SATA drive and install the OS? It would either need to be very compatible with Windows XP or come with drivers that I can install during the OS install. If the computers do not have SATA interface then they are very old and hardly worth spending money on new HDD's for them.
