Troubling switching Netgear LAN IP

I'm having trouble changing the IP address of my Netgear router. I want to change it to 192.168.1.1 to get it on the same network as a Linksys that we have in the office, but whenever I try to do that I get an error that says IP conflicts with WAN IP subnet. I can change it to 192.168.2.1, or 192.168.0.1, or even 10.0.0.1. Why is this one address giving me problems?

I haven't tried simply changing the Linksys to match the Netgear because the Linksys is the primary, and I didn't want to boot anyone off while working on it. I'm also interested in solving this problem for it's own sake.

Thanks in advance.

Just thought I'd let you know that I figured it out. Turned out that the modem was causing the conflict. Its IP was also set to 192.168.1.x. Literally took me a day to find an answer, but I guess if you read long enough you'll find a clue. I'd never dealt with this issue before.
