trying to install win xp...using windows cd. i keep getting ntldr is missing error.

Hi: Im am trying to install win xp...using windows cd. i keep getting ntldr is missing error. I have tried 4 different install disks on 3 different hard drives...all resulting in the same error. Bios set to boot from cd first. So i figure it cant be the hard drive or install disk as i have used different drives and disks. Machine is sony vaio..about 9 yrs old. Pentium 4. Any help would be appreciated

since support for xp is gone in little more than a month,why?

I forgot to mention that I have tried using a windows 7 install disk and get boot manager not found error.

did you set your computer to boot from the cd/dvd in the boot menu or set it first in the bios?here is a tutorial that may shed some light on your problem.
