It appears that Ubisoft was instructed by the pirate community to shove their DRM up their ass sideways.

You are right indeed, i stand corrected.

Although concerned about having something like Steam (labeled by some a trojan) on my PC, I think having to find and use a CD every time I want to play something I BOUGHT is a waste. I don't really mind having to be online, but having to take specific actions when a simple click ought to do has inspired me to use cracks on games I've bought legitimately, and skip many games I might otherwise buy.

I don't understand what those companies r doing. For simple example, i bought an original game, which uses the old: "please insert disc" method to play the game. It is hell annoying and it takes forever to verify. How about the pirates? Nop, its much easier, crack it and you can play it without any bloody discs. Who is wining? the pirates. Why r they doing this?!?! just do something simple like what mass effect is (verfying authenticity every 10 days) without any use of discs. They should make original gamers life easier other than those annoying shxts. If the game is good, ppl will buy originals..

Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic is uploaded to many torrent sites and is working judging from comments i have read.
let it be a lesson ubisoft.if i wanted to play this game i would have been a pirate cause i would never have payed you for your DRM.

[citation][nom]bison88[/nom]Victory for PC Gamers! This DRM business and anti-pirating schemes are doing nothing more than hurting the already dwindling market share of PC games, NOT helping. When will they learn? Stop destroying out platform for gaming please, we would appreciate it much if actually built games that revolve around the PC's and not turn them into console ports.[/citation]
'
This is not a victory for gamers. On the contrary publishers will stop making games available for the pc and focus on consoles since those games are usually not modified or hacked.

Just bought BF:BC2 for the PC and it asked me if I wanted online authentication or having the DVD always in...reminded me how crappy it is to actually buy something legit, especially as I move a lot and either don't have internet connectivity (yay, for roaming charges in Europe) or the room/patience to always bring my DVDs with me.

Flipping heck. Please, will people PLEASE buy the damn games if they want to play them. Here is a list of the games that I have sitting behind me, now completed, all purchased at a reduced price a few months after being released:

Riddick
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
C&C 3 T wars
C&C 3 kane's w
Red Alert 3
Blacksite
Left 4 Dead
Supreme COmmander
Supreme COmmander Forged A
Half Life 2, ep 1
Wolfenstein
Unreal T 3
Left 4 Dead 2
and a load on Steam

Do they have DRM? Yes. Is my pc still working as it should be? yes.

Stop being tight ***** ****** and buy the damn games. They're luxury items and you don't have to buy them and no one's forcing you to buy them. If you don't buy and pirate then STFU when saying that the PC games industry is falling apart.

The people who made Sins of a Solar Empire got it right.

"Customers are NOT criminals" (or something like that)

Basically, their stuff is DRM free, and it sold very well.

[citation][nom]Shadow703793[/nom]WHY don't companies just release their stuff only via Steam? I'd rather have Steam's "DRM" than this SecuROM,etc cr@p.[/citation]

STEAM games have cracked versions as well.

Ubisoft was nice to users and released a DRM-less game... remember the last prince of persia? it was one of the most pirated game of '08

the problem with ubisoft is not their DRM. it's their poor ports. they need to clean up their act

Wow... Ubisoft must be very thoughtful of those with slow/capped internet and those on laptops without internet. As if the find the CD to play another game, don't scratch the disc and wait a long time to verify wasn't bad enough.

When will they learn not to waste money on the DRM garbage that never works anyways and annoys the crap out of everyone? Why do we have to to subsidize their stupidity spree by paying for their games?

...They always just end up investing more in this garbage while they could have been improving our gaming experience or giving us a price break.

If you lock it, that is an incentive to steal it 😛
The DRM just makes people want to crack and pirate it more.
If games were cheaper and not locked, pirating would go down by a lot.

[citation][nom]kavic[/nom]I knew it would only be a matter of time, all DRM does now is make it a pain for those who are legit to play there games.[/citation]
Agreed. So the the legit ones who really like these games are now tempted to buy pirated or not play these games at all.

i think that the new drm's are stupid some of us, aka me dont always have the most reliable internet connection but enjoy playing games they purchased. so whats the point of buying a game i cant play all the time. glad some one already cracked it

Although I'm completely against such an evasive DRM as this I realise that such systems are needed and we need to face the fact that this is NOT good news.
Anyway, I do believe that pirates will in time loose their ground.
Some systems have had some sucess. Bioshock and Batman DRM comes to mind. And other online activation modes. Also giving additional free digital content to valid registrations can potentially lead to less piracy.
But I think more can be done. This guys need to replicate the MMO system. In that your client means nothing with certain data that could periodically be sent over the web.
Obviously pirates could crack the DRM, but if the client doesn't have the necessary data to process the game will simply not work as it should.
Pirates would have to develop their own server software to mimic the official one and that always takes more time. The end result would be killing 0-day piracy that is what companies want to limit the most.

Has there any DRM or Copy Protection that really stop people from pirating any kind of Digital Work (or more specifically PC Games) ?
DRM will only create more headache for the REAL Customers!! those that really dont want to buy those games will only wait for the cracked version anyway.

even on consoles, there are ways to crack or mod the games.
the only way to slow cracked games are to make the media that those games distributed in costs a lot of money or hard to get. but that will kill the market for that specific console.

DRM is bulls**t!

I have bought Hawx 2 with the drm-crap, only to find myself looking for a pirated offline version of the game. What does this say? It means I will never buy Ubisoft crap with the drm-crap ever again.
