A girlfriend understanding of a gaming habit, and indeed, of the desire
to participate in a fan-made quiz spanning two weeks about said games?
Truly, you lead a charmed life these days. What did you do with the old
'Phid?

So, you ARE the highest score in a single game. Although I do not doubt
that Paulon, as you say below, will have a most impressive overall total.

Yeesh. Two full years I missed. I know I vanished not long after the
beginning of a year, so that'd be '03, and here it is, some 2.25 years
later (at the time of my return).

He was in this one, briefly. He seems to be very low frequency in his posts.

Heh. II wasn't one of my faves by a long shot, actually... however, as
you've seen, I manage to sneak in questsions from the old games.
Granted, I often have to get them from various resources online, or the
Prima UC Guide, although a few things from my own experience do stick
out in my mind well enough.

Of course, there's every chance that, if I game enough this year, that
you will see questions on a new game in the next UJ.

You wish. Even were I so inclined, there's no way I'd come up with the
clues in time.

It will return to its annual nature, so expect its announcement sometime
in the first quarter of 2006, and it'll begin 10-14 days after that.

I'm curious, do you keep a database so you can check if you're
repeating questions. This sort of annual undertaking is a pretty major
effort, and I'd like to know how you go about it.

Can't miss my chance to defend the title I already lost last time!

Sadly, I have all too little time to follow this newsgroup anymore, it
was more luck than anything that I noticed Lumina's announcement.

Yeah, I know. My last post was intended to show how stoopid *I* had been,
not to complain about the rules. Didn't mean to cause confusion or to make
your correct-answer-counting more difficult.
I'm still curious to see wether the answer I gave was correct or not, even
though I fully know I won't receive any points for it. I still have 329
posts to catch up on since my li'l absence, so I believe I'm about to get my
curiosity satisfied.

It was a great game, and I'm a bit sad that I couldn't enjoy all of it. And
now I have to wait another year, huh?

Yes, Brion was correct. I could not have acknowledged that fact,
however, while the game was in progress. All remaining questions get
answered during the Running Totals post (if from the first half) or the
Final Scores post (if in Double Jeopardy).

Maybe not quite a year, depending on when I get it finished. Anytime
from January to May is fair game, the earlier the better.

Well, be sure to peek in come 2006. At some point early in the year - at
latest, around the time I did it this time - UJ7 will arrive.

After all, Paulon proved already that previous titleholders can reclaim
their title.

Used to be, I checked my old notes and check against the questions list.

I believe that I once or twice did reuse a question, but it was on
purpose - it had not been answered in its original showing, and it was a
couple years since then when I repeated it. (The one in particular I am
thinking of was quite suited to one of the topics in the UJ I reused it
in, even though it was a different topic than it originally was in.)

To the best of my knowledge, I have never repeated a question by accident.

However, my notes seem to be too lost of late (navigating boxfuls of
papers isn't easy), so I switch to using Gooja to check my old questions.

I should probably compile a master list one of these days for reference
purposes.

But you ARE right that this is a major undertaking. Coming up with new
questions is never easy. Except on some topics - like characters.
(There's been a Cast of Characters category in, as near as I can tell,
every UJ except #2. And at least twice, there was a Cast of Characters
II as well, although I try not to if I can help it - it sort of
announces I couldn't think of just ONE MORE category. Which I must admit
was true this time, but not the other time - I just had so many good
characters to include for that one.) No end to the people in these
games. Important, unimportant, noble, common, warrior, mage, good,
evil.... no end to it.

It's just that, after the second one (the first one was just a burst of
inspiration for something entertaining to do here), I felt it would be
neat to keep it going. So despite the work involved, I keep it coming.

I have at times thought of taking on assistance, but that would exclude
such people from the game, of course. Plus, I am irrationally proud, and
therefore possessive, of my creation. No offense to anyone. Just not
often that an idea of mine becomes a hit, you know?

Ever the day comes when I am unequal to the task of coming up with sixty
questions, maybe then it'll be time to pass the torch.

But it IS NOT this day!

Good. :) And thanks for indulging me!
