Hello,

I have a i 5 2500 CPU with windows 7 32 bit home premium, and with 8 gB of RAM (4 x 2 corsair 1600). The Motherboard is ASRock Z68 Pro3-M.

The unit is running on a collermaster 500 MW PSU.

I seemed to have messed up somewhere, as my computer shows that only 2.73 GB is usable. How can i utilise the entire 8 gb?

Is the only fix, that i need to instead get 64 bit windows 7? Also is there is fresh purchase for the windows 7 or is it a free upgrade from the 32 bit version?

The reason why you can only access 2.73 gb is because you are using Windows 7 32bit. You need Windows 7 64 bit to access the rest.

You can download a copy of Windows 7 64 Bit from Microsoft and use your current software key that you used on the 32Bit version, for the 64 bit version.

Also, you can only use the key for one running copy of Windows. If you run the Windows 7 64 bit, you must delete the Windows 7 32 bit. You will be safe if you just install Windows 7 64bit over your Windows 7 32bit install.

Hi. Thanks for the help.

Quick Question, how do i get the download up and running. The microsoft website seems to take me to a purchase page for the 64 bit version.

EDIT - the option on the MS website appears to only provide an option to have the install DVD delivered from a retailer in my city.]

I seem to understand from your reply that this shouldn't be the case - the same key would work, and hence no payment is required.

Is there any way to get the 64 bit directly? Is there a download available?

Also i will be using the OS only on my current system, so will do upgrade/ reinstall basis the option available.
