Hi,

I'm trying to install Windows XP onto a new machine - AMD AM2 3500+ running
on a K9N Neo motherboard, 512MB Kingston DDR2 RAM, 80GB clean NTFS formatted
SATA hard drive, ASUS DVD-ROM and CD-RW.

The installation disc is detected as boot media, the message saying "Setup
is inspecting your hardware configuration" is shown, then the screen goes
blank and nothing else happens. The CD is fine, have been able to reach setup
on other machines using it. Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

Memory maybe. Try running memtest on it.
I am surprised you only went with 512 mb ram considering 1 gig is pretty much the norm now adays. I would say to try 1 stick at a time but you cant with ddr2.

I ordered 1 gig, but only 512 has arrived thus far. Thankfully I've sorted the problem now though - the hard disk was the problem. Cheers for the reply anyway.
