I have this frustrating issue with my computer, which has been very difficult to properly diagnose.
What happens is, the PC would sometimes work for hours, sometimes just 10 minutes, and then suddenly the screen would go black, and after 3 or so seconds the pc would shut off and restart.
What I've done while the PC was functional;
*checked all the temperatures - they are fine.
*stress tested both CPU and RAM with 2 different diagnostic programs for each. They all passed.
* tested the PSU and all the voltages checked out. Note that this is a high end Thermaltake unit.
* Interesting thing to also note is that when the screen goes black, the CPU led lights up for good 2 seconds before mobo shuts down. Mobo is ASUS P7P55D Evo. Reading around the net has shown me this problem has happened to some other people as well.
*did a bare bone booting (just psu, mobo, cpu and ram) and the pc would still shut down at random times.
* it's not a software issue because it does the same thing in BIOS ( default settings, latest version)
I really dont think that there is any possibility that either PSU, RAM or CPU are at fault here because they checked out on several tests at different time frames.
Is there a possibility that there is some kind of a fault (capacitors or whatever) with the motherboard, because PC has been working fine without any errors or BSODs for nearly a year.
An interesting thing to note is, sometimes PC won't even pass the POST stage. It either hangs or just keeps restarting itself erratically.
Any ideas on what else I can test out before I RMA this board?
