Hello,
im getting strange cpu temps with core temp after cleaning dust out of my case, i also cleaned the cpu cooling fan and heatsink but have not removed or replaced the thermal compound already on it.
the cpu usage goes up to 100% on a single core im using a phenom 9650 x4 Oc to 2.65ghz from 2.3ghz. i had overclocked the system prior and the temps never touched 60c on stock, now they can hit 75 while playing some games. do i just need to apply thermal paste?

no the cpu usage never climbed much at all unless i was playing a demanding game like metro then all 4 cores would run at about 40-70 percent max

and i have stopped using the computer for a while as i took the heatsink of the cpu just to check while my thermal paste is delivered, there is hardly any paste on it at all it is inconsistant and there seems to be dust in it. hope the new thermal paste fixes the problem

It sounds like you found the problem. You must have had some pretty good air pressure to blast dust between the cooler and CPU. Or maybe the cooler wasn't attached securely. Either way, the problem should be solved when you clean the old thermal paste off and apply new. And be sure the cooler is firmly and tightly against the CPU's heat spreader. Btw, which paste did you order?

Cooler Master HTK-002-U1, i think i might have either knocked the heatsink slightly loose while cleaning and i think taking the heatsink of the cpu didnt really help either

That thermal compound is a new one to me. Good luck with it. Here in the US, Newegg carries it and the reviews are a bit mixed.

Nevertheless, it will be a great improvement on your present situation if you apply it correctly. I always like to 'tin' the two surfaces first before appyling the final tiny bit of any TIM. Let us know how it works for you.

just applied the thermal paste , all seems well just using the computer normally for now and temps are at 39, im running malware bytes just to see how programs effect the cpu usage and temps. i know there is a set in period with thermal paste but all seems well, gonna let it sit for a while then play some demanding games :)

Just the same problem. Yesterday I was cleaning my fan/heatsink before I was cleaning my core temperature is 36 after I cleaned it I check my core temp and it hit 46. My stock cooler's speed is 3164 rpm should I apply thermal paste when cleaning or buy some new fan/heatsink.
