How to stop windows 10 update from downloading, it just started to download even if i don't have an internet connection.

(Windows 10 pro 64 bit)

Solution

If it's whilst your on the PC and downloading in the background, it will be stuck at 0% because you have no internet.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to stop them? But you can stop automatic downloads by going into your internet and network settings, clicking on your WiFi / Ethernet connection and activating 'Metered Connection'.

To physically pause an update download, there's no 'simple' way to stop them. You'd have to use CMD

- net start wuauserv
- net start bits
- net stop dosvc

If you're referring to when you start up your PC and it's on a "Configuring Updates" screen or a similar message, then those aren't the updates downloading, those are the updates installing. They have already been downloaded onto the system previously. So just let the updates install normally.

Is it definitely stuck at 0%? If updates have not been done in a while, it can take a while to install them. I'd wait a fair while before immediately assuming they are stuck, unless you can physically see a HDD LED frozen too.

If it is stuck, this tends to cover most basis: https://www.lifewire.com/g00/when-windows-update-gets-stuck-or-frozen-2624439?i10c.referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F
