Hi Guys...I'm currently running an Intel e2180 2ghz along with 4gb of PC2 5300 DDR2 667Mhz...New to this sort of thing & without overclocking, i would like some advice on a replacement CPU that will run at around 3ghz+ ..My machine is 1 year old with a decent Nvidia Graphics Card installed for video-streaming & not gaming.....Any suggestions on an appropriate CPU?.....I know you guys have the know-how!!.....Help Please USH515

List your motherboard brand and model number. If it's an oem dell, hp, etc. then it will be more difficult to predict which cpus it will run. Dell has it's own forum where you can post questions. If you don't know about your board, run cpuid, a free download, to id your board and memory.

p6ngm-l.....well the highest you can get would probaly be e5xxx pentium or e4xxx core 2. but it will be difficult if you have an e7xxx or even e8xxx because of voltage support and bus limit. if i'm not wrong this board only support fsb 1066mt/s (which i had one in the past.) so chance are really mere for you to upgrade your processor for a big jump.

just save money for new rig because this is over for you!

i recently had the same chipset and it does support 1333 u have to manully change the FSB to 1333 as for overclocking with that board you will be lucky if you can get more then a 400 mhz increase there is no option to change vcore. If i was you i would save up for atleast an i5 system if you really want to stick with that board an E 7xxx or 8xxx would still be a nice upgrade. The 610i does not support yorkfields so Q8xxx or Q9xxx are out of the question however it will support a Q6600 but they are a little pricey in my opion your better off with a higher clocked E8000 I would suggest an E8400 with a stock clock at 3ghz u can easily get it up to 3.4ghz with no hassle on that board. Even if you dont overclock it will still be very nice performer.
