Hello.i have i5 4670.ddr3 1800.gtx 980 ti and i mainly game at 4k

Thinking of upgrading to i7 6700k with asus rog maximum viii with ddr4

Is it worth?will there be a noticeable performance in gaming?or i am better off getting a second gpu

Thanks

Solution
I think for now your build is pretty decent. You should wait for pascal and see what it can do with what it's compatible etc..
Upgrading cpu you will see very small changes in fps but if you want cpu for rendering you should look for a 6 cores etc.
But if you really want for now you can do SLI.
Getting a second GPU for 4K gaming on a Z97/H97 (or lower) will not improve your experience significantly. The platform is simply not optimized for gaming in 4K. The X99 or Z170 platform is a much better option.

Getting an i7 over an i5 won't really be noticeable in most games. But you will see an improvement in games utilizing Hyperthreading.

You are right. He shouldn't do it for the CPU, but for the chipset.

No he meant getting a second gpu

so i should get x99 or z170 with a second gpu and get pascal chip when its released?or it wont be compatible with the platform, and wait and get pascal with new platform?

Just watch this. It's not due to the CPU, but due to the chipset.

Actually, that really depends on the motherboard that you have. What's the chipset? If it's Zxx then I would go for the 2nd GPU, otherwise "tough' it out waiting for the 14/16nm node of your choice. (Pascal for team green/Arctic Islands for red) Check the reviews and get what's best (that you can afford)

The CPU upgrade won't be a significant benefit.

Of course, if you do go the 6700K on a Z170 motherboard (why would you pick anything else for that CPU) then you would be able to go SLI in the future.

Actually since MB, CPU, 8GB and CPU cooler (which you may be able to re-use if you aren't using the stock 4670 cooler) shouldn't be much more than a 980ti anyway ... A major swap now would align much better with whatever comes in the future.

OK, now I'm leaning more towards the swap of the major components. (Final answer)

i have z87,im thinking of going for second gpu but will my motherboard handle sli well?

What's your mobo model ?

msi z87 -gd65 gaming

It only supports CrossFire not SLI

In regards to op's questions, getting second GPU is never bad idea, especially if you have the funds for a another 980ti, I have sli 970 and I love it and that's pretty much like having single 980ti, so in your case having 2 x 980ti's will be beneficial for future. Also I use nvidias DSR since my panel isnt 4k, and I play certain games at 2k, 4k for example elder scrolls oblivion or age of wonders III.

As for the CPU I would just wait and see what next year will bring. I still use my old i5 3570k and its plenty.

The Z87-GD65 is perfect for 2 card SLI so that isn't an issue. The CPU is also more than good enough for anything around now. At high resolutions you're limited by the GPU almost entirely so upgrading the CPU won't help. Pick up another 980 TI if you want, or wait to see what comes up next.

I disagree entirely with the poster who said the chipset on the board makes a big difference. The chipset only really manages your secondary peripherals in a modern PC and DDR4 isn't really mature enough as a technology right now to make a huge difference. Maybe in a year or two when they get it to clock much higher.

according to MSI web site

http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-GD65-GAMING.html#hero-overview

Multi-GPU: NVIDIA SLI & AMD CrossFire Support

Sh*t not that mobo..... GG google GG....
Yeah your mobo supports SLIII

Ok thanks guys for the info.this may seem dumb but is pascale new gpu or cpu if it's gpu I can get other compants now and get gpu next year or have to be everything new to be compatible
