[SOLVED] upgrade my processor

looking to upgrade my processor from an intel i5 6400 to an i5 8400, currently working off an Asus G11CD, motherboard is a ASUSTeK G11CD, wanted to ask if the i5 8400 would be compatible with the motherboard i have?

I do not think its going to work because the motherboard needs to be 8th gen and here your computer only 6th gen and 7th gen allowed no 8th gen!

Also you should check out PC partpicker to double check if a system is compatible as to remove any question marks. You get a quicker answer rather than waiting for forums to reply

Need a 300 series motherboard. Same socket yes but there are dummy pins on 100/200 series boards which 8/9th series cpus require. Best you can do on current motherboard is an i7 7700/7700k.

im so happy i found someone with the same system as me. I have the same exact desktop. Only things i have upgraded are a gtx 1070 and 16gb of corsair ddr4. My questions is, i was looking into a i5 9600k but im not sure if our mobo can support it? Also have you upgraded ur psu? With these upgrade i have im wondering if i should upgrade too a 850 or so and get rid of this <Mod Edit> stock 500

did you have the original gtx 970 graphics card in before the gtx 1070? i haven't upgraded the PC as of yet, only added another piece of memory that it, wanted to upgrade me processor and graphics card though

A 9000-series CPU will no more work in this motherboard than an 8000-series CPU.

And if you're running a 1070, you shouldn't be using the stock PSU.
