Hi guys ,

Its been a long time since I posted here , but in the past here was the place to be for my questions , so... lets go !

long story short :
- I went back to college but I need a 'very demanding' laptop. I am living alone and falling back on a 'not that great income' so I'm considering to give my old laptop a new life instead of buying a 1200$ laptop.

My current laptop is a HP G7-2055sb
It currently has :
Processor : AMD A8-4500M ( 1.9 Ghz , 35W )
HDD : 640GB
RAM : 6GB

the HDD wil be ofcourse changed for an SSD , and the ram will be upgraded to 8GB ( maximum capacity for this mobo , should be plenty for now )

But the real question is , can I swap my processor?

I found out in a thread from 2013 that someone actually did it with the A10-5750M . Now , that was in 2013 , meanwhile in 2019 no one actually 'tried it' I guess :p

So my question is , IF its possible , what cpu could I swap for this one?

and maybe an off topic & 'stupid' question : but is the maximum RAM capacity defined by the processor or the mobo?

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE

Michaël.

I try to find the info from HP, but I can't find any info. But if you can found that info, or you may check the HP site to see you can find your laptop can support the A10 5750m or not, also you may need to updte the BIOS for the A10 too.
BIOS https://support.hp.com/us-en/driver...n-g7-Notebook-PC-series/5226249/model/5265151

And I found other info for the laptop batter, HP recall the laptop battery, here is the info: https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...ies/5226249/model/5265151/document/c04404446/

By the cpu, MB, and HP. Like before some of intel cpu has 32-bit feature so that you can use the 32-bit OS for 4GB. And the MB and the BIOS can limit the RAM too.

Hi there, I'm also seek some information to fix and upgrade my HP Pavilion g7-2180sr, but in my case it is a Intel based laptop. While lookig for other g7 specs I found that models g7-2053er, g7-2025sr and g7-2117sr were equipted with A10-4600M. Also a "maintance and service guide" was found (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03315557 ) and it confirms that A10-4600M was top CPU for this laptop series on FS1r2 socket. You may try to swap it for aA10 and i'm 90% sure it will work (but you should also update BIOS to the latest version). As for A10-5750M I'm not sure about it's co, because it is another gen with another core + might be more rare and expensive. (But still might work as well)
Lookout for high temps as CPU and GPU connected to one dual cooper pipe line with 1 fan only.
In my case uprgade is inappropriate as my CPU (wich is i5-3210M and is the slowest i5 3rd gen for G2 socket.) reaches 90degC in heavy loads

Also keep in mind that CPU replace may affect laptop's working hours from battery
