Am seriously considering buying this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?MBB-643451
but would like confirmation of 2 things.

1. Will my existing programs still work on this, that the 64 bit program
compatibility is with the OS and not the hardware.

2. Can I install this and run the "Repair" option. Will existing programs
etc. work after it or should I do a clean Format and re-install.

Currently using XP Pro with SP2 and all recent critical updates.

Kenny,

Let me explain, the motherboard with the processor you are referring to will
work with your existing OS abd also the software, however it will not use its
full capacity, it will work in 32 bit mode.

If you think that repair option would make your OS work, then I would say
that you would need that at all

Without know which specific applications you have, there's no way to
provide an accurate answer. Most 32-bit applications are supported, but
check here:

Windows 64bit Compatibility Guide

However, your main concern should be the compatibility of, and
especially the availability of 64-bit device drivers for, your video and
audio cards, and any peripheral equipment, such as printers, scanners,
digital cameras, etc.

No. Because WinXPx64 is available *only* as an OEM license, if cannot,
by design, perform an in-place of an earlier, 32-bit OS. You'll have to
either create a dual-boot scenario (assuming you have an empty partition
onto which to install WinXPx64), or format the hard drive, perform a
clean installation, and then reinstall your applications.

Not relevant, in this case.
