Upgrading GTS 240, around £90 Budget

Since we are working with a small budget (original topic again), save for a 650W psu (minimum), and go with either a GTX560 or GTX580. GTX560 is probably around your budget by itself, as well as the psu, but like someone else said already, these are the lowest upgrades where you will really see any difference worth while. personally I think a gtx 560 pending a nice oc is a nice upgrade from a 6870 as Ive expirienced the difference first hand on my system, granted I have a ti model...

Looking at his choices he probably can't afford a 560 or 570, so i still say 460. 465, no way ! If you have the money go for 560.

basically no matter if I was going for a 4 or 5 series nv chip then Id look for an aftermarket version from asus, msi, or gigabyte personally Im done with reference designs and for that matter I will wait for non reference design nvidia 6 series gpus to come out before I upgrade, I'm pretty confident that my current gpu will meet my needs at 1080p until that time (q2 or q3 2012?) I can dream, can't I..

don't get me wrong there are some good ref design gpus but personally I haven't had the best results with them

very low budget for trying to upgrade what he has. personally, id start with the PSU, and save for the GPU. and dont cut it close on the PSU! get something you can upgrade into!

Monitor: I think its 1280 to 720 (this is the resolution i use for most of my game e.g. Crysis 2, Battlefield bad company 2).

Im shocked that Crysis 2 works on a GTX 240 (all settings on Ultra!) it works smooth.

I have the same computer as you! I am not sure what to do because there is a wireless card right below my GTS 240 card and there is barely an inch of space. I am worried if I upgrade the new card will not fit.

@malmental do you know if the wireless card for the Dell Studio Xps 8100 is a pci or pcie card? I think I have an open pci slot at the very bottom. The top most slot is being used by my GTS 240 card and the only other open slot is the bottom one.

I think I have a new problem malmental, my case has very bad airflow so if i get a new graphics card it will prolly overheat and die. My GTS 240 idles at 90C with a Gpu load at 1-10%..... I suspect something is wrong.

Your last edit was unclear, Im assuming i can get a Gtx 550 ti? Im not sure what you mean by the power supply being modular.... Sorry if im a noob at this. Im still worrying about my case because it doesnt have good airflow.

The Cpu is an intel i7 Im not sure if its an OEM or not... btw do you know if a GTS 240 is supposed to run at 90C idle with gpu load of 1%-10%?

that "gainsworth" is an overpriced paperweight...never even heard of them. evga, pny, asus, gigabyte, msi, and then possibly palit...possibly. that is always the order i shop in for cards. However, i run towards asus as they usually have lower prices than evga or pny. check them out. running their 560s in my case now.

for the person asking about the wireless card. usb's are great, but make sure you plug it into the back of the computer. i had mine in a front usb slot, and it got banged around. they work great, but you have to be gentle.

OCZ isn't a terrible company, but isn't my first choice. Corsair hasn't been dethroned in my mind, and coolermaster makes a close second. other reputable companies would be antec, silverstone, and maybe even rosewill for their lower end models (ran an old 500W from them 6 years straight...no breaks).
