[SOLVED] Upgrading my Gaming PC

Hi Guys,

I need some help as I'm out of the loop when it comes to PC parts. What's good or bad, I'm not too sure now!

I would like to play all the latest games on max'ish settings and create videos on youtube. So the CPU needs to be for rendering also.

Here is my current build:

CPU: I5 4690k
GPU: GTX 1070
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (MS-7917)
Ram: G Skill F3-17000CL11-4GBXL DDR3 x 4
PSU: 850W

I think the main things I would like to upgrade first is the cpu and motherboard. I have a budget of £1000 for the upgrade, I can max go up to £1500.

In this case you will need to consider a new CPU, a new motherboard, and a new set of RAM as what is out now will be DDR4 or 5 according to how high up the ladder you go. Afterwards, just about any medium or better new system is going to be getting all the best out of that 1070. According to the age of your PSU, it could need replaced before a meaningful update and particularly a new GPU.

In my own opinion of it, I would be on the lookout for the price drops on 12th gen, stick with DDR4 for now and go as high as you can on a new mobo, i5/7, 32GB (or more) RAM, and a nice NVME drive for OS. I leave it to you to consider your own market pricing and preferred retailers.

What's your monitor resolution and what is the make, model and age of your psu?

Thanks for the reply.

I guess for now I can focus on the CPU, Motherboard, and Ram. Do you think a budget of £1000 will be okay? My PSU is fairly new around 2 years or so. What do you recommend I get? I don't mind spending a bit extra if it will last me a while, then I can upgrade the GPU.

The i9 is a heat producing power hog imo not to mention more expensive cooling is required for that cpu.

Mind you this review was conducted with DDR4 which isn't nearly as good as DDR5 in regards to productivity such as video rendering.
