Question upgrading parts

i am thinking of upgrading my cpu from an i5 3750k to an i7 3700k and my graphics card to a nvidia 1660 super from a nvidia1080
would i need to get a new power supply when my current one is 700w

You can definitely upgrade to an I7 3700K if your board supports it, if you can get it to 4.2 Ghz or so that would be a generally usable PC, but it still wouldn't be an amazing gamer at this time. You would need to upgrade your power supply to a better unit, and in order for you to have at least a 50% increase in performance you would need to upgrade to an RTX 2080, 3070, 4060, or RX 6650 XT, 6700 XT, 7600, 7600 XT. Anything less than those would not be a hugely noticeable improvement, either way those cards will be held back by your CPU. Though with a decent overclock you should have a pretty good experience. You're at the point where you would want to build a new computer to get a really decent upgrade though. I've included a link to the RX 7600 XT as it has most of the GPU's discussed in there, and the RTX 4060 has a very similar time spy score when compared against the RX 6700 XT, so you can use that as a reference point.


I7 3700K and RTX 4060 in many games for reference, it holds the 4060 back.
