[SOLVED] UPS not giving backup PSU shutting down and tripping its protection circuit

Hello,

I am facing some issue with my UPS and PSU. Need some help here.

Case 1:

Whenever I do high load tasks like gaming and power cuts off my UPS goes into backup mode but my PC shuts down. Now when I try to power on the PC it doesn't respond which means PSU Protection Circuit was tripped.

Case 2: While UPS is in backup mode if I game it shuts off backup power and same happens as in case 1.

Case 3: If there is a minor power surge mouse led shuts off for a split second.

My Full specs is in signature and my UPS is a 1Kva unit from a well known tier 2 brand and is approx 11months old. It was brought brand new.

My PC max power draw is around 300w at max.

Is this indication of faulty UPS or something else.

System specs:

Ryzen 5 3500 Stock Cooler

Asrock x570 Phantom Gaming 4

G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8gb @3000

Zotac 1660s Twin Fan

Matrix Evolve Case

860 evo + Wd Blue 1tb + Bx500 480gb

Cx450

Just making sure, because I see some of the same complaints like with your current unit, but it's likely just another compatibility issue.
Customers in the Indian markets more often than not, are running with older or poor quality power supplies in their PCs.
So it doesn't shut off ever? The first thing I suspected from the description was overheating psu; it will refuse to power on until it has cooled down.

What is this well known ups? There's these sine wave UPS and ones that aren't, and I remember reading that Seasonic psus in particular are really picky about that.
I know you have a Corsair, but has it always been this way since you got it?

Nope, it worked fine like its designed for 11months.
No, the UPS just doesn't shut off and if I keep it like that the psu will restart after 1-2minutes.

Its only that whenever there is load on the UPS on backup power it loses its capability to power the device and it goes into an infinite loop of powering down the PSU and powering it on again which led me to believe that it was tripping its protection circuit.

Its a Microtek 1Kva unit
https://www.amazon.in/dp/B009CVTXMO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bkasFb84PQ1HW

They make decent Online UPS and voltage stabilizers here in India.
Couldn't get APC at that time as it was not available because of some QC issue in the batches received and it was recalled as per the retailer.

As you can see in the video that the PSU shuts off but the monitor is unaffected. This led me to believe that the psu protection circuit was triggered when the ups lost power for some seconds while switching (the response time must be higher than the psu hold up time) and gave a jolt (led lights up for split second in video after blackout) which led me to believe that the psu was tripped (just my assumption).

I'm not so sure - this person seems to know what they're talking about:

disclaimer- bought it from an offline shop but since the product is same so why don't i share my experience about the hardware and after sales.

first you need to know something about UPS market in India. QC(quality control) for almost all consumer grade UPSes here in India is pretty trash. if you have little knowledge about electrical components you can see that the components used are not top notch. even brands like APC cheapen out here in India compared to US.

secondly the QC that i was talking about was regarding offline ups. there are 2 types of upses, online and offline. offline ups will pass on the AC current through your wall socket if electricity is present and if there is power cutoff it will pass through battery. online ups on the other hand will always pass current through battery even when electricity is present in the wall socket so offline are more reliable as the power is never pulled from the AC mains and hence gives better equipment protection and clean power but the battery degrades much faster. i will add an image to demonstrate that. online ups are used in hospitals, servers...etc. a high end gaming machine could benefit from online ups but it could cost 40k without batteries and you won't get them easily on online or offline. you have to order them before hand and mostly are dealt professionally with companies who can customize you ups according to your needs. Riello, APC, Eaton, Enertech are some brands. i won't trust microtek, luminous to make online ups if i had an medical equipment or a server or a 5lakh rupees gaming pc. however cheaper online ups are available but still could cost half the price of you computer. i would love to get one but wish i could afford one.

now comes the review.
my psu is 550W so i got this 1000VA and why it is not written in watts is because for ups you need to take 60% of the mentioned VA to get the wattage so 60% of 1000VA is 600 watts which is enough for 550W psu considering that the max load my graphics card, mobo...etc put in 390W so i have a lot of headroom for both PSU and UPS.
i got it from a store offline and that was my biggest mistake because 5 days later it popped like a popcorn and instead of corn smell i got burnt plastic smell and then started the sh*t show called after sales. we can all agree after sales is trash in India with few exceptions like Amazon but this UPS was a special one.
i called customer care and they told that home service was available so they took a complaint and a guy came within 7 hours(that was fast i admit). his checking the UPS was what flipped me off. he took out his multimeter checked for a few seconds and without even opening a single screw he said "Sir no reading in multimeter so there is a fault. take it to service center" and he was off. the whole coming into my house, checking the UPS and leaving my house too less than a minute i swear. this was their home service, they don't repair at your house they just come and do some basic diagnostic which every person can do like checking the pins with multimeter and tester. however on calling the customer care they again say that home repair is done but only if it is in 7kms radius(mine is 5kms) but still service center guy tells me "you have to bring it to us".
2 things are fishy-
  1. either microtek calls their home visit as home repair so that they can add a marketing term while selling.
  2. service center guys lie because they don't want to carry 10-15kg bricks to their office and take advantage of the situation as microtek doesn't pay much heed to the situation.
still i created quite a lot of mess and got into touch with higher ups in microtek so everybody even in my local service center knew my name and were kinda hinting towards a home repair but since i was loosing time and this was going on for 4 days i just took it to the service center and the thing is heavy AF and my shoulders feel like a school going kid.
got there and a guy gave me a receipt and again the 'sarkari babu attitude started'. he said in an disinterested tone "come 2nd half tomorrow to pick it" but i had already contacted the in charge and because of the situation i created he promised me he will resolve it within hours if i brought the UPS to the center. the guy who promised me shows up and says "sir it takes time to repair". i told him my name and he was like "oh! sir its you please sit down we will get it repaired right away". with half an hour he gave it back to me properly tested and told me it was a circuit issues. god knows he is lying or not. came back and yet to test it out coz he told me to charge it for 12 hours powered off.

so what did we learn-
  1. buy from amazon. their support rocks. either you return/replace or they will hook you with someone in the manufacturer's camp who is in high enough position to get your issues solved with a phone call to the lower level peasants(in reference to position in the company) who think themselves as 'sarkari babu'.
  2. stop calling repair guys and technicians as engineers. it gives bad name to an already maligned yet skillful profession.
  3. these local level service center guys are cunning. yes they are paid less but they don't do much work either. whatever scam or process goes on the ground level rarely reaches to the management's ears so when you face such issues make sure to make the management aware of such issues. management won't tell you directly but internally they follow up and either the situation is improved and everyone follows rules or the guy gets fired. i have personally seen such things happen multiple times.
  4. it is a modified sine wave not pure sine wave but sound like a square wave inverter. always makes the annoying WWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA sound when electricity is cut.
  5. there is no fan coz i din't hear one spin and fans may be annoying but they serve an important purpose of keeping stuff cool. 10-15k upses have that.
  6. microtek QC is trash. passed sticker is a lie on the UPS.
  7. most UPSes in India don't have good reviews so only option is buying APC stuff because at least they have the history of making good UPSes when their name was American Power Conversion Corporation until they were acquired and named APC by Schneider Electric. microtek, luminous, v-guard...etc can't be trusted coz they don't have history of making UPS. making stabilizer and ups are 2 very different things.

This next one appears to be just for you:
8. don't buy UPS for backup. inverter is for backup not ups. ups is to protect your component from sudden power failure (because response time of inverter is around 100ms and that of ups is around 10ms and smart ups less than 4ms) and surges and to give to enough time to save your stuff and shut down. most negative reviews on upses are about "it promised a backup of my lifetime but it lasts lesser than i last on the bed". these are those idiots who don't have common sense. you can't take every word literally. there are many variables like acid batteries deplete over time, you have a gaming pc...etc before you take that 'backup time' advertised as serious. did you see anyone asking "UPS means Uninterruptible power supply, so why don't i get unlimited power" because no one takes the word literally. similarly don't take battery backup stats literally. due this many genuine complaints about battery backup get suppressed. i can plug a 'good knight machine' and say it has 10 hours backup and tell that you are a lier. so think properly before writing anything coz a customer might just look into the overall rating and thing that a particular UPS is bad.

in a nutshell, AVOID.

The problem is I am not even able to shut down properly, I usually shutdown pc in minutes after power loss be it gaming or anything else.
What he said was true that UPS is only a temporary backup power for shutting down the pc normally. And I know that but my issue is that its not even allowing me to do that. Watch my video and you will know the exact issue.

Power loss
System shuts off > System picks up that brief flow of battery power > System shuts off because battery didn't stay on
Battery trips on, but too slow > Battery shuts back off because nothing to supply power to

Something like that, but it's happening really quickly.

But what about that PSU tripping? That is what worries me. As PSU runs fine on my home online inverter(I can restart instantly after shutdown) and doesn't trip but it trips on the offline ups for pc.
