I bought a Toshiba 8 GB USB flash drive few weeks ago, formatted when I first put into my Win XP machine using quick format.
After working with it for couple of weeks, saved and read my file with no problem until last night. When I put into my Win XP machine it said it needed to reformat because opened from Windows Explorer or My Computer did not show anything, it popped up that message, then I redo the quick format.

Any reason was that? I lost my work file (although I should had a copy of that somewhere).

Your drive is corrupted so that it prompts for reformat your usb drive, so now to reuse it you have to format it. If you need the data and files which were there before format, then you need an efficient data recovery software for the recovery of your data and files.
