Question using a NAS hardrive in a desktop

Hi all, is there any issues for a NAS hardrive if you use it in a desktop? Not in terms of performance, but in terms of the longevity of the drive. will it break sooner if you use it this way since the desktop will get turned off and on? I want to buy a large drive as backup and put it in my desktop.
