Hey Guys,

I've been monitoring my performance a bit and I've noticed that windows 8 seems to be using 5 - 6 gb of ram just at idle on the desktop.

Now the thing i'm confused at is that on the task manager the CPU and HDD performance are around 0 - 1% whereas my Ram is at 70% (I've got 2 x 4 gb) but the processes the Ram is being used for don't add up to anywhere near that.

Is this an issue with windows 8 and Haswell? My friend doesn't have this problem and he's on Ivybridge.

I read that windows 8 uses around 2 gb so that fact that it's going up to 6 on the desk top with no other programs running is a bit confusing.

Are there any settings that need to be looked at?

Solution
do this at first.
1.Hit Windows key+r
2.type in regedit and then hit enter
3.go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management in the editor
4.double click on ClearPageFileAtShutDown and change the value to 1
5.restart computer

and try to enable/disable system paging and see which case suits you best.

I do not have any file called Memory Management in the editor so what do i do? I am constantly using 7GB of ram no matter what i am doing and even when i do a fresh install of windows 8.1. I did memory Diagnostic and ti said my RAM is good also.
