Vatsim Identity theft?

Several nights ago is was flying on Vatsim, when a private chat message
popped up on my screen from a guy named "Rick or Rich" (if memory serves me
correctly). He stated I was logged on twice to Vatsim which was a violation
of Vatsim policy. I texted back with the question "How does one log on
twice?".
His reply was maybe I was using two computers, ( I was not), or maybe I had
"loaned" my Vatsim ID to someone else. (Other than the users in this group,
I do not know anyone personally who flies MS Flight Simulator.) Shortly
after I texted him back that I had not loaned the ID to anyone, he texted me
that "well, it just cleared up". Is my thinking correct that if someone
else had logged on with my ID, that party saw the private chat just as I was
seeing it . . . got spooked 'cause they knew they were using a stolen ID #
and logged off. Has anyone else had a problem with a potential THEFT OF THE
VATSIM ID?

Strange. To log on twice requires two different call signs so the "other"
connection would not have seen the private chat to you. Too bad you didn't
ask for the call sign.

To my knowledge there hasn't been any thefts so I cannot even guess what
would have happened. If it happens again write the membership dept and see
if they can trace it.

Reads to me like a software problem on their end. Got to love the "guilty
until proven innocent" attitude of this private messenger.

It happened so quickly and was over within less than a minute after the
initial private chat began. If it happens again, I'll certainly follow your
suggestion, else go to the membership department and request new numbers.

The day SB3 was released to the public, At one stage, the servers were
making duplicates of every connection on Vatsim (so when we had something
like 1400 people logged on at one time, it reported 2800)

The Servers all crashed at some point and rebooted and on reboot the
duplicate problem went away. (they all went down one by one, USA 1 first,
then 2 then 3 then the UK and Europe ones and finally Asia and Oceana.)

That, Trent, may well be the answer. I usually load servinfo.exe program to
see who and where ATC is operating and see pilots online as well. I don't
ever see duplicates of my name or any other pilot that is logged on.
Someone else in the group suggested software problem on their end so I think
you two probably have hit it correctly. Thanks!
