Vectrex as XY Test Monitor

Hi All,

Searched google but didn't find much. Anyone know of a website that
documents how to hack a Vectrex to make it work with Atari XY PCBs? Would
love to use one of these on my test bench.

Thanks,

This has been covered before... I know there are some descriptive
instructions out there somewhere...

That being said, I'd recommend just getting an oscilloscope... it'll cost
you a little more up front, but then you've got yourself a great diagnostic
tool for doing board repairs. Plus, it's fast enough for the boards... I
understand some games don't display correctly on a Veccie.

I already have a scope. I understand that the Vectrex can't keep up with
most games, but it'll show some XY output while I'm using my scope to debug.
And its small size is attractive for a bench.

I had wondered the same thing. Nifty little machine to have.

Point taken.

Keep digging... like I said, I know I ran across some good directions once.

Good luck,
Rob

you need one of these boards they use in a vector mame setup, or you could
use the whole setup as a test fixture, but currently they are out of them
and are supposed to make more this summer. link

Im not sure it would be possible, but it would be really awesome to
have an lpt port to arcade input adaptor. After setting up mine (in
which my vectrex was giving me brightness issues) Even if there was a
card, it might not be possible due to the customization of each monitor
to that card. I just wonder if its possible to alter the nvram to act
more like a native vector generator board for diagnostics.

*shrug* I bet zonn has the answer.

Yep. The ZVG is a great device. I've read about how they manage timing so
that it can display accurately on a Vectrex.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help with using it as a test bench monitor for
debugging original arcade boards.

I'd second that suggestion.

I'd also add that it would be a great shame to go around
modifying/hacking a Vectrex which is, after all, as much of a classic
in console terms as some of our classic arcade games.
