First of all, I'd like to emphasize that I've been struggling with this issue for a very long time, and I'm not even sure where to begin. I've already contacted NVIDIA support, and while they were eager to help, their suggestions didn't make much of a difference, and nothing changed. I'll try to describe my problem in as much detail as possible, and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. I must admit that I don't have high hopes because I'm truly losing my health while trying to fix this problem.
My computer specifications are as follows:
- MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS motherboard
- MSI RTX 2070 Super
- Intel Core i5-9600KF (overclocked to 5.0 GHz)
- 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (3200MHz)
- be quiet! Power Zone 650W power supply
- Game installed on a Samsung 980 Pro 512GB SSD
For the past few months, I've been dealing with the issue of reduced GPU utilization in games, which hovers around 50-60% (the temperature of the graphics card doesn't exceed 60 degrees Celsius). As a result, I experience game stutters (in games like Warzone 2.0, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, Hogwarts Legacy, and many other demanding games), as well as choppy visuals and low FPS. During this time, the CPU usage remains at 60-80% (with a maximum temperature of 58 degrees Celsius). I also want to mention that I overclocked the CPU long after these problems started occurring.
Initially, I found on forums that the issue could be related to Bitdefender, so I added all games to the exceptions list, and for a while, the problem disappeared. However, it came back eventually.
Following NVIDIA's recommendations, I restored the CPU to its default state, performed a complete Windows cleanup (full format), and installed only essential chipset and graphics card drivers on my computer. However, the problem still persists in all games.
I checked the graphics card's connection in the PCIe slot, changed the power cables for the card, but without any changes. The computer and system are clean and cool during operation, and none of the temperatures come close to being high.
And here's the most important observation: when I run a stress test on both the CPU and GPU simultaneously using FurMark, both components operate at 100% capacity, and all sensors appear to be fine according to my non-professional observation. That's why I would be even more surprised if it were a physical hardware issue. The problem only occurs in games. All benchmarks run perfectly.
I really don't know what else to do. I'm losing interest in playing, and I'm even contemplating selling my computer because everything is starting to get on my nerves, and I'm losing all the joy of gaming.
To summarize, the graphics card functions properly in all benchmarks and stress tests. I have a clean system, BIOS restored to factory settings (with and without CPU overclocking, the problem remains the same), and the issue appears in practically all games, with the GPU utilization capped at 50% while all computer parameters are at default settings. Only drivers and games are installed, with no background applications running.
I forgot to mention that I've had this computer for 3 years, and this issue has never occurred before. The problem itself has been going on for about 5 months, but I didn't actively address it for a while after my initial attempts because I felt drained and discouraged. I wanted to get back to gaming, but with these symptoms, it's practically impossible.
Can anyone help me with this?
