Video card update...., worth it?

I've got a two year old Gateway with a P4-3.06 ghz, 512 meg of RDRam. It's got an ATI 9700Pro card with 128 meg that it came with. Would it be worth it to upgrade to an X800XT, or would that be wasted on my system? I looked at the 9800xt, but that's almost as much as the X800xt. From what I've read, the 9800 isn't that much of an improvement over the 9700 to be worth the cost.

Would the Nvidia 6800 Ultra be an option? At the risk of starting a big argument...., which is considered the better card, X800 or 6800?

Thanks for any help offered!

x800 you cpu will limit you, a 9800xt would be good though, but for a hundred bucks less ya can get a gf 9800 nu which performs better then the 9800xt

gf9800nu = G-reat F-in 9800 N-ew or U-sed?
