hey all, i just sold my old components to a friend, my celeron 700mhz,and via 133 mobo with 192mb of ram, but his video card will not work in it.the thing is wierd, it is a maxi gamer 3d and it is made by guillmoton the bx it says that it includes voodo2 technolodgy, i take this to mean that it is a voodo 2 clone as it has 3 large chips on it sporting the name of 3dfx (May they rest in peace) and it has a SLI connector. the thing has dual heads or something to that effect one has a male end and the other a female. It came with a cable that has two male ends, after reading the manual i found that this card requires another video card in order to work! You must connect the cable between the maxi gamer and the other card, I did this and to my suprise it did, but what is the purpose of this card then?! I looked around and the system only recognized the other video card, does this card enhance the other card or something? It is very strange.

I believe that the Maxigamer is an origonal 3d card. Meaning that it was a 3D accelerator...it makes the 3D of your other card better.

I have a Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix. It is a 2D/3D card based on the 3DFX Voodoo Banshee GPU. It can't be connected to another accelerator ( to my knowledge ) but is enough for light 3d gaming ( DirectX 5 to DirectX 6 games ) The Voodoo 2 is a 3D accelerator card, it need to be connected to a 2D graphic card ( or to a 2D/3D card that can support it ) The Voodoo 2 GPU and memory are clocked lower than the Banshee but the Voodoo 2 got one more "pipe". IMHO, use the Voodoo Banshee, it will save your friend a lot of trouble and a PCI slot. If the motherboard got an AGP slot, don't hesitate to recommend him to purchase a new AGP graphic card for under 80 $

Here are some helpfull ( but unclickable links )

It's a VooDoo-2 card, I used to have one a long time ago and those days it was sweet. It's like an add on to your AGP video card, an accelerator, those days the AGP cards were pretty crappy (4 to 8 Mb ram) so by adding the VooDoo-2 (12 Mb ram) you got better picture/performance, added 2 in SLI mode and you doubled the video power/ram.

If your current AGP is a half decent one then there is no use adding the VooDoo-2, it's just way too old technology.

It should have a driver cd, or if you get lucky you might find it on-line and download it.

Have fun

The voodoo2 is not an addon, its a stand alone 3d card. Your PC needs another card as the Display adapter, hooked up to the voodoo2. The voodoo is not active in 2d, as soon as you start a 3d game, the voodoo becomes active and the display adapter turns off. Ever tried playing a game with the voodoo not hooked up? you just get a black screen, while windows appears normal (when you exit the game).

Thanx guys I was a bit confused as I have never had so old a 3d accelerator, my first was the voodo 3 2000, then i bought a kyro 2 and attempted a voltage mod so that it could be better overclocked. It worked but as luck would have it I loosened up the wires to the fan somehow and it broke free sending current on all the wrong places. so I bought a geforce 2 ti wich overclocked wonderfully, i got a core clock of 300 from 250 or was it 200? and a ram clock of 460 from 400, i loved that thing until last week when it also died in a brilliant flash of light. so now i am stuck with using an old trident 3d image with 4 mb of sd ram and a ram and core clock of 100mhz 🙁 I put all of my ram sinks and my fan from my geforce 2 ti on to it but the thing will not get past 110 mhz i cant wait till tomarrow when i order my brand spanken new geforce 3 with 128mb of ddr ram!

So it's a stand alone that only runs with another card? Did you think that over before typing it out? :) The Voodoo Banshee was a stand alone AGP/PCI 2D-3D, the V2 never, the V2 was only a 3D accelerator and nothing more.

No I did not try to play a game by disconnecting the V2 card and leaving it in the PCI slot, why the hell would anyone do that? If you remove the V2 from the PCI slot your black screen will turn into visible one since the video will stop trying to switch over to secondary (V2) which is for some twisted reason still in the PCI slot except not connected. 😉 I somehow can't see your point, it could be me.

I admit that was badly worded. I was trying to oblitorate all thoughts that the voodo 2 increased the 3d performance of the other card.

don't sweat it, it's just not the same as talking to somebody face to face, lines get screwed, meanings get lost, whatever.... it happens
