WD PassPort Can't mount Mac OS

Already checked all the existing threads but no joy.

Able to occasionally 'see' My Passport in Disk Utility but unable to complete Erase - Unmount - Repair external hard drive.

Message: Unmounting disk
Couldn't unmount disk
Operation failed.

Tried replacing cable but no joy - Tried switching USB port but again no joy.

I've given up on saving data on the hard drive I just want to reformat it and use it.

Any ideas anyone?

I'm sorry to hear about your WD My Passport! Unfortunately, it seems like the external drive has failed. Have you tried the HDD on another Mac OS computer? Good job with the troubleshooting so far, though. I'd recommend you to check the warranty of the external on our website here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=rNSUFZ
If it's still covered, you should be able to send an RMA to our customer support and get a replacement from them. If you have any important data on the HDD, though, you should first contact a professional data recovery company that would be able to assist you in getting your files back.
