We need more power increase the clock speed!

I don't get it. How can anyone say the pentium 4 is faster then the athlon processor? I have yet to see a direct comparison! If you notice the athlon processor is 400mhz faster then the pentium 4. You need to compete a 1400mhz athlon with a 1800mhz pentium 4 to see that they are equal. The 2ghz beats a 1400mhz processor ... i don't understand how i'm suppose to be impressed? What is impressing is that a 1400mhz processor beats a 1700mhz pentium 4. Thats impressive! Thats all AMD has to do is release the 1.5ghz and 1.6ghz athlon 4's and AMD will again have the "fastest processor crown" for a little awhile.

The sad part of intels chip is that i bet the tualtin (or celeron) does better then the pentium 4! If the tualtin is equal to the athlon for clock for clock then the tualtin must be faster then the pentium 4. Lets hope intels remake of the pentium 4 shows some respectible margins. Right now it's a joke that the pentium 4 has to be 400mhz faster just to stay equal with the athlon 4.

It's bad for the consumers too because they are being aggresively manipulated and decieved because they see 1.7ghz and compare it to an athlon 1.4ghz and think the intel chip is faster. Intel's marketing scheme is ethicly wrong where it is decieving the general public. On top of that intels pursueing legal actions against VIA or at least threatening them because VIA wants to help intel actuall sell pentium 4's. Intels management is like Rambus Management but the only difference is that intel has manipulated the people to think only intel and to like only intel like walking zombies seeking brains while no one likes Rambus.

It has nothing to do with intel vs amd this is strictly intel vs intel. How can it that no one sees Intels aggressive and manipulative behavior?

You have to realize both have their pluses and a minus at current AMD appears to have more pluses. But like I have said before Intel survived more of a beating in ’85. Walked away they will regain their status for supreme silicon semi conductor company*giggles*.

I honestly think Athlon needs a FSB increase more than a clock speed increase. That's the only advantage P4 has over athlon. Cause we all know Athlon owns P4 clock for clock!

I want to see a 333DDR FSB with PC2700 DDR MEMORY for the athlon. That would make things rather interesting!

And I bet u an athlon running that high a fsb would beat a P4 in Quake 3 which P4 does really well in because of it's FSB.

Actually, I think it's SSE that's making the P4 win in Quake III and some other games. When the Athlon4 comes out, any lead the P4 may have in games and perhaps video editing will be eliminated.

AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the <b>ULTIMATE</b> PC processor

ya but still back in the day of where the cyrix was semi popular they rated the mhz in what.. i forget... like mp rating i think.. i know i'm wrong .. pr rp . .dang .. my brain is dead .. you know what i'm talkin about right? at least show the equivalent performance between the two! ya know? they did it before! what they should do is change the whole psychology from mhz to .. hmm whats a good way to measure the cpu's performance? i'm thinking either MIPS or MegaFLOPS? not sure.. brain is totally fried and i only had one day of classes so far lol.

You are probaly the best of the AMD i have see right now.
Is true that athlon4 score """"almost"" equal. The gap is just less......

Forgot [-peep-] clock for clock it was just good for P3 vs t-bird.P4 was never desigh for clock for clock. In the same logic MAC made a cpu 4X faster that anyone.

The last part was not for you but the others.

that is a good idea in theory, however if you remember the PR (pentium rating) of the Cyrix cpus, they were WAY off. A cyrix PR166 was like a p100 for most apps......The based it off of something like office productivity or something (I forget what it really was, but it was an app that the cyrix performed best in) which didnt really measure the power of the cpu.

dude, get over it! a crippled P4 @2.0Ghz just spat all over a Athlon @1.4Ghz! and we're not gloating are we?

Without going into anything technical, you must understand that your obvious bias (nice nick) prevents people from taking what you say at face value.

indeed it did. finally the P4 is looking decent vs the athlon.

took its time though.

only took 600 extra Mhz and approximately 420 extra dollars.
bit of a shame that.
(cots doesnt include ram and mobo either)

what i really dont like is how intel is stuck in the rambus quagmire and cannot/willnot allow via to release a DDR mobo for the P4.
give the consumer SOME choice with the P4. reduce the cost. make it look more economical.
thats whatthe majority of people really want.

I agree. Intel is being very stupid about that whole thing.

What they should do is just release their DDR-SDRAM version of the i845. Then they would hurt VIA pretty well, because everyone knows that Intel chipsets blow VIA chipsets away in terms of performance and compatibility. So, then Intel would win based on performance and technology, not by strong arming motherboard makers and giving themselves bad PR.

But, I guess that's just the way it goes with all corporations. They will all sell their souls if it will make their stock go up 25 cents...

<i>I don't know anything about computers... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...</i>

omg you're still as moronic as before... you're a fool thats all you are thats all you ever will be. An ignorant manipulated fool where if i tied a string to you i could control every movement and thought you make like a puppet master has to it's puppets.

<sarcasm>
ya wow a 2ghz finally is faster then a 1.4ghz athlon ooo wow i'm really impressed...
</sarcasm>
EVEN THOUGH INTEL HAS TO CRANK IT UP 600MHZ TO BEAT IT!

the point is, is that it is decieving to the general public. Even a fool such as yourself must realise that. I can make a chip that goes at 30ghz and people will be wow thats super super fast and amazing even though it would run compared to a 486sx25!

gotchya... well i can't edit my post so... it should say slower not faster.. keep that in mind in the beginning of my post....

That's just the thing-you cannot compare them clock for clock right now because AMD can't mathc Intels clock. That would be like comparing an Mac to a PC clock for clock in Photoshop or something. Right now the clock difference is so great that you can only compare the best processor each manufacturer offers. Intel seems to be a very poor value but the best performaer right now, and will continue that performance advantage with the Northwood. Hey, a Lamborghini outperforms a Ferrari by a small margin at twice the price, but they have no problems selling them!

I'm so tired of cookies I'd settle for spam!

I'm talking about performance. The point of the matter is that if AMD had a 2ghz chip it would crush the pentium 4 in everyway. The main idea is that the mhz rating is deceiving and a standard should be set to rate the performance of the cpus to protect the general public. Otherwise some comapany will make a chip that is "supposed" 100ghz (for example) even though it would run like a Duron 700mhz. Even the new Duron 1ghz is not faster then an Athlon 900. You know that every here knows that but the general public doesn't know that.

lol

ahhh but u forget that the top 1% probably spend 10-20% of all the money.
its always expensive being at the pointy end of the hardware cost/performance curve.

another thing... why does tom still include the quake3 benchmark?
everytime i see that i just laugh out loud.
640x480 on a 2000mhz processor. what an absurd joke.
sure it shows that the p4 outclasses the athie 1.4 but... umm... who the hell cares?
even if someone DID want to run at that resolution they couldn't find a monitor that could handle 200hz, let alone eyeballs that can differentiate between 200 and 180 fps. lol
hmmm... can you run quake3 in only software emulation mode?
(like UT)

P.S. any details on the heat output of that 2Ghz processor?
i imagine it gets a tad toasty
