I´m with some problems with my computer. It is a P4 2.4GHz, 512M (2x256), ASUS P4V8XX, 64MB GEFORCE4 MX 4000 – 8X, Windows XP.

Two strange things are happening:
1. My computer is freezing a lot of times while it´s working. The screen just stops, and nothing works. So I have to reboot it! It is happening very often!
2. Almost always the computer doesn´t boot up. I turn on the computer and nothing happens. The monitor doesn´t receive any signal! Sometimes the boot starts and stops, and the cursor stays blinking; Sometimes the led from the CPU stays lighted all the time (but the computer doesn´t boot up).
The technical suport changed one memory stick and the problem sopeed for 3 days. But now it has returned.
I don´t know what to do. It is a problem with the main board or memory? I really don´t know...

Thanks!!!
Leonardo

It could be a bad power supply, but that board is really trashy, worse than many PC-Chips boards.

heya leomoq;

My suggestion if your going to change out the mobo which seems to be one of the prime suspects is to buy an Abit IS7.
It is a realy good solid board, and will completely eliminate the possibility of the mobo being bad, however it also sounds like your PSU could be the problem, in this case i recommend an Antec True Power 430w. Either way your looking at $70 wether you try replacing the mobo or the PSU first.
If it were me i would try and rule out the PSU as the problem first, what PSU do you have, what are the specs, is it a true power unit, or some generic, the answers to these questions may end up revealing the culprit.

He could easily get by on the $40 Fortron Source/Sparkle Power 350W unit.
